This year, there are a few changes to the selection process that have everyone talking. First, the NMAA has decided to allow for more flexibility in choosing at-large teams. This means that more teams than ever before will have a chance to compete for a spot in the State Tournament

Second, the NMAA has increased the number of teams that will be invited to participate in each division. This change is especially exciting for smaller schools who often feel like they are at a disadvantage when competing against larger schools.

So, who will make the cut? We’ll have to wait and see! But one thing is for sure, it’s going to be an exciting year of basketball in New Mexico.

The NMAA has released the brackets for this year’s Basketball Tournament In the first round, 32 teams will compete in eight different games. The team that wins each game will advance to the next round, until there are only two teams left standing. These two teams will compete in the Championship game to determine who will be crowned this year’s NMAA Basketball Champion.

So, who will make the cut? The following are our predictions for which teams will advance to each round of the tournament:

First Round:
32) University High School vs. (1) Highland High School – Highland has been undefeated all season and is seeded first in the state. We predict they will win this match-up.
31) West Mesa High School vs. (2) Albuquerque High School – Albuquerque High is seeded second in the state and we think they will win this game and advance to the next round.
30) Clovis High school vs. (3) Eldorado high school – Eldorado is seeded third but we think Clovis has a good chance at an upset here. We’re picking Clovis to win and move on to face Highland in the next round.
29) Carlsbad High School vs.(4) La Cueva high school – La Cueva is seeded fourth but we believe Carlsbad has what it takes to win this match-up and pull off the upset. They’ll take on Albuquerque in the next round if they can win this one.

Fillies are teams that have a losing record but still qualified for the playoffs due to their strength of schedule. Safeties are teams with a losing record that did not qualify for the playoffs but were given a spot due to there being an odd number of teams in their particular classification.

The NMAA has released the brackets for the 2017 basketball playoffs Some of the notable matchups include:
