On March 30, 2017, Notre Dame announced that Mike Brey would continue as the Head Coach for the men’s basketball team for an additional five seasons.

The Fighting Irish have appeared in nineteen NCAA Division I Men’s basketball championships and twelve NCAA Men’s Division I Final Fours, six of which were achieved while they were members of the Big East Conference They have had ten undefeated seasons including seven perfect seasons (a program record) and have won two National Championships in 1935 under head coach George Keogan and again in 1952 under Head Coach Hugh Devore. A: The Notre Dame coaching staff starts recruiting a player as soon as they become aware of them. This can be through various scouting services, AAU coaches, or High School coaches. Once a player is on Notre Dame’s radar, they will begin to do their homework on the potential recruit.

Q: What kind of factors does the Notre Dame Coaching Staff take into account when recruiting a player?

A: The Notre Dame coaching staff takes many factors into account when recruiting a player. Some of these include: academic record, athletic ability, character, work ethic, and fit within the program.

Q: How often do the coaches interact with potential recruits?

A: The coaches interact with potential recruits as often as they are allowed by NCAA rules. This can vary depending on what stage of the recruiting process the player is in. For example, during an evaluation period, coaches are allowed to have one in-person interaction with a recruit per week. However, during official visits, coaches can have unlimited contact with recruits.

An official visit is when a recruit comes to campus and meets with the Coaching Staff and tour the facilities. The recruit will also get a chance to experience what it would be like to be a student-athlete at Notre Dame by sitting in on classes and interacting with current players. Official visits are paid for by the university and can last up to 48 hours.

What is the training and development process like for Notre Dame Basketball players?

As part of our mission to develop the whole person, we focus on three areas with our student-athletes – Academics, Athletics and Personal Development. Our training and development staff works with each player on a daily basis in each of these areas to help them perform at their highest levels and reach their potential.

For home games the team wakes up around 7 a.m. and has a light breakfast before getting on the bus to head to Purcell Pavilion. Upon arrival, they have a pre-game shootaround to get loose and review the game plan The team then gets dressed and goes through their usual pre-game routine of listening to music and getting mentally prepared for the game.

tip-off, the team warms up on the court and goes through their final preparations before the game starts. After the game, they cool down, shower and change back into their street clothes. The team then heads back to the hotel or dorms to rest and recover before doing it all again tomorrow.
