RIT’s 2019 Baseball Roster

Rochester Institute of Technology’s 2019 baseball roster includes 31 players from 12 states, including two from Canada. The Tigers have 14 pitchers, five catchers, six infielders and six outfielders.

RIT’s pitching staff is led by senior right-hander Joe Goebel (Webster Schroeder High School), who compiled a 6-4 record with a 3.86 earned run average and 70 strikeouts in 77 innings last season. Junior left-hander Zachary Ottaviano (Pittsford Mendon High School) was 5-3 with a 4.50 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 66 innings, while senior right-hander Mike Fetchet (Fairport High School) returns after missing last season due to injury. He was 4-0 with two saves and a 1.86 ERA in 2015.

The Tigers also have several talented young arms, including sophomore right-hander Jake Saylor (Victor High School), who appeared in 10 games as a freshman, posting a 2.70 ERA in 10 innings pitched and freshman right-hander Jack Lindgren (Pittsford Sutherland High School), who was named Monroe County Pitcher of the Year as a senior after going 8-0 with a 0.77 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 53 innings pitched.

Rochester Institute of Technology’s (RIT) Division 1 baseball team is a close-knit group of guys who are passionate about the game. The team is made up of student-athletes from all over the country, each with their own unique story and skillset.

Pitchers:

Willie Argo – Senior – St. Louis, MO
Willie is a senior from St. Louis, Missouri and is one of the team’s starting pitchers. He is a mechanical engineering major and loves to fish in his free time.

Dylan Harvey – Freshman – Fairfax, VA
Dylan is a freshman from Fairfax, Virginia and is one of the team’s Relief pitchers He is undecided on his major but is considering studying business. In his free time, Dylan likes to play Video games and listen to music.

Catchers:

Joey Aiola – Senior – Staten Island NY
Joey is a senior from Staten Island, New York and is one of the team’s catchers. He is studying biomedical sciences and hopes to go to medical school after graduation. In his free time, Joey likes to play the drums.

First Basemen:

Ethan Righter – Freshman – Columbus, OH
Ethan is a freshman from Columbus, Ohio and plays first base for the team. He is an undeclared F restarting D’Angelo College of Business^ §§and enjoys playing basketball in his spare time.

Here at RIT, we are proud of our Baseball Team and the hard work they put in day in and day out. But we also know that success on the field starts with a strong Coaching Staff Here’s a quick introduction to the men who help our team compete at the highest level

coach Steve Farnsworth is in his fourth season as Head Coach of the RIT baseball team Prior to coming to RIT, Coach Farnsworth spent four seasons as an Assistant Coach at Syracuse University He is a native of Liverpool, New York and a graduate of Ithaca College.

Assistant coach John Nunn is in his first season with the RIT baseball team Coach Nunn comes to RIT after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at Rider University. He is a native of Hamilton, New Jersey and a graduate of The College of New Jersey.

Assistant coach Mike Moore is in his third season with the RIT Baseball Team Coach Moore has also served as an assistant coach at Haverford College and St. Bonaventure University. He is a native of Webster, New York and a graduate of Hobart College.

RIT Baseball’s Schedule for the 2019 Season

The RIT Baseball team is set to begin their 2019 season on February 22nd, when they travel to freezes over North Carolina to take on Campbell University The team will play a total of 56 games this season, 29 of which will be home games played at Wegmans Stadium. Some of their opponents this season include conference rivals such as Cornell University Syracuse University and the University of Rochester RIT is looking to build off of their success from last season in which they won the Liberty League Championship and made an appearance in the NCAA Division III World Series

RIT baseball has a total of 27 players on their roster, including 12 pitchers, four infielders, six outfielders and five catchers. The team is composed of mostly upperclassmen, with 16 seniors and eight juniors. The average player on the RIT baseball team is 22 years old and hails from New York State Twenty-three members of the team are right-handed while four are lefties. Coach Rob Pike enters his fourth season as head coach of the Tigers with a career record of 89-61-1.

Some Key Players to watch out for this season include senior third baseman Mike Delaware (Batavia, NY/Batavia), who was named a Preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball News and Perfect Game/Rawlings; senior pitcher Nick Neumann (Webster Schroeder/Webster Schroeder), who was also named a Preseason All-American by Perfect Game/Rawlings; senior outfielder Alec Seabrook (Auburn/Auburn), who led the Tigers in batting average (.367), hits (79), runs scored (51) and stolen bases (22) last season; junior pitcher Bryan Sienerth (Pittsford Mendon/Pittsford Mendon), who led the Tigers with seven wins last season; and sophomore catcher Ryan Diorio (Liverpool/Liverpool), who started all 15 postseason games for RIT last season.

RIT Baseball’s 2018 Season Recap

In 2018, the RIT baseball team had a record-breaking season. The team won their conference tournament and made it to the NCAA Division III World Series The team was led by senior captain Joe Dristanic. Joe was named the conference player of the year and led the team in batting average home runs and RBIs. The pitching staff was anchored by junior ace Nick Diery. Nick was named the conference pitcher of the year and led the team in wins, ERA, and strikeouts. The team also had two freshmen All-Americans, shortstop Matt Girolimetto and closer Connor Kupsky.

The 2018 season was a special one for the RIT baseball program The team made history by winning their first ever conference tournament championship and making it to the NCAA Division III World Series. The team was led by some amazing players who had a great season both individually and collectively. Joe Dristanic had a phenomenal season at the plate and on the field, while Nick Diery dominated on the mound. Matt Girolimetto and Connor Kupsky were huge contributors as well, providing solid defense and clutch pitching when needed most.

RIT Baseball’s 2017 Season Recap

In 2017, the RIT Baseball Team made it to the NCAA Division III World Series for the first time in program history. The team finished the season with a 42-14 record, and was ranked No. 1 in the nation for most of the season.

The team is made up of 25 players, all of whom are dedicated to making RIT baseball a successful program. Here is a quick look at the 2017 roster:

RIT Baseball’s 2016 Season Recap

The RIT baseball team had a very successful 2016 season, compiling a record of 25-15. The team was led by senior infielder Mike Gionis, who hit .360 with four home runs and 26 RBI. Other key contributors included sophomore right-hander Matt Weaver, who had a 3.38 ERA in 13 starts, and junior closer Kyle Dolan, who recorded eight saves. The team’s success was due in large part to its strong pitching staff, which had a combined ERA of just 3.40.

RIT Baseball’s 2015 Season Recap

It was a building year for RIT Baseball in 2015. With only four seniors graduating, the team will return the vast majority of its roster for the 2016 season. The team made strides in conference play and looks to continue that momentum into next year.

Pitching was a strength for the Tigers in 2015. Senior right-hander Steve Marino led the team with four wins and recorded a 3.38 ERA in 14 starts. He struck out a team-high 73 batters and only walked 18 in 87.2 innings pitched. Marino was named First Team All-Conference and will be missed next season.

Junior right-hander Mike Scarallo also had a great year, finishing with a 3.86 ERA in 13 appearances (12 starts). He struck out 68 batters in 72 innings pitched and held opponents to a .265 batting average Scarallo was named Second Team All-Conference and will be looked to as the ace of the staff next year.

Sophomore left-hander Connor Ryan was another bright spot on the pitching staff. He appeared in 16 games (two starts) and finished with a 4.15 ERA, striking out 31 batters in 34 innings pitched. Ryan showed great progress from his freshman year and should be even better next season.

The bullpen also featured some solid performances from sophomore right-hander Brendan Leonard (2.70 ERA in 10 games), junior right-hander Brian Haney (3.38 ERA in 15 games), and senior left-hander Andrew Boehm (1.93 ERA in 12 games). All three pitchers will return next season and will play key roles out of the bullpen once again.

The offense struggled at times during the 2015 season, but there were still some bright spots. Freshman infielder/outfielder Brad Boyd led the team with a .305 batting average while sophomore infielder/outfielder Dan Mahoney wasn’t far behind, hitting .302 on the year. Mahoney also led the team with four home runs and 20 RBIs, while Boyd stole a team-high 10 bases (in 11 attempts). Both players will be key contributors on offense once again next season.

Junior infielder/outfielder Mike Glinka also had a solid year at the plate, hitting .256 with two Home Runs and 16 RBIs, while freshman infielder/outfielder Max Mucha added some pop to the lineup, hitting three home runs and driving in 11 RBIs despite hitting just .235 on the year. Mucha has big power potential and could be one of the top hitters on the team next season if he can make some adjustments at the plate

RIT Baseball’s 2014 Season Recap

The 2014 season was a historic one for the RIT Baseball team The team made it to the NCAA Division III World Series and finished as the national runner-up, the best finish in program history. The Tigers also won their first-ever Liberty League Tournament Championship and set a program record with 32 wins.

RIT’s success was due in large part to its strong pitching staff. The Tigers had four pitchers who earned All-American honors, led by ace John Gegelman. Gegelman was also named the Liberty League Pitcher of the Year and finished his career as RIT’s all-time leader in wins (20) and strikeouts (233).

The Tigers will look to build on their success in 2015 with another talented group of players. returnees include All-American pitcher Will Carlson, who saved a school-record 12 games last season, and first baseman/catcher Mike Paladino, who was named the Liberty League Rookie of the Year in 2014.

RIT Baseball’s 2013 Season Recap

The RIT Baseball Team is hoping to rebound from a disappointing 2012 season in which they finished with a record of 12-27. The team has a young roster, with only four seniors on the squad. The team is led by junior pitcher Jordan Smiley, who was named the Liberty League Pitcher of the Year after going 6-3 with a 2.48 ERA last season. Other key players include junior second baseman Brad Boyce (.308 batting average 19 RBI) and freshman first baseman Mike Genovese (.313 batting average 4 home runs).
