SCF Baseball Roster: Who’s Who and What to Expect

The Santa Clara baseball team is gearing up for another season and we’ve got all the info on who’s who and what to expect!

Introducing the SCF baseball roster Who’s Who and What to Expect

This season, the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Baseball Team looks to return to the NJCAA Division I World Series After an appearance in 2018 and a disappointing 2019 campaign, the 2020 team is looking to make some noise. Head Coach Rusty Stroupe has put together a talented group of young men that will look to take the next step. Here is a look at the 2020 SCF baseball team

A Closer Look at the Infielders

The San Francisco Giants have a long and successful history, dating back to their time in New York. The team has won more than its share of World Series titles, and its fans are among the most loyal in baseball. As the team prepares for the upcoming season there is a lot of excitement surrounding the roster. In this article, we will take a closer look at the infielders who will be donning the Giant’s uniform this year.

The first baseman is a critical position on any baseball team and the Giant’s first baseman is no exception. Brandon Belt is a big part of the team’s success, both offensively and defensively. He is a power hitter with a keen eye for detail, and he has developed into one of the top first basemen in baseball Defensively, he has excellent range and a good glove. Belt will be an important player for the Giants this season.

At second base, Joe Panik will look to build on his strong rookie campaign from last year. Panik was one of the surprise stories of 2014, as he came out of nowhere to claim the starting job at second base. He is an excellent hitter with a good glove, and he should be a mainstay in the Giant’s lineup for years to come.

Third base is always one of the most hotly contested positions on any Baseball Team and that is certainly true for the Giants as well. Pablo Sandoval was a fan favorite during his time with the team, but he left to sign with Boston last offseason. The Giants replaced him with Casey Mcgehee who had an excellent season with Miami in 2014. McGehee is not as flashy as Sandoval, but he is a solid player who should provide steady production at third base this season.

The shortstop position is also up for grabs heading into spring training Ehire Adrianza did a solid job filling in for an injured Brandon Crawford last season, but Crawford is healthy now and ready to reclaim his rightful place on the team. Crawford is one of the best defensive shortstops in baseball, and he also provides some pop at the plate. Adrianza will provide depth at shortstop this season, but Crawford will be the starter come Opening Day

The Giants have a solid infield heading into the 2015 season. With Belt manning first base, Panik at second base, McGehee at third base, and Crawford at shortstop, they have a nice mix of veteran experience and young talent that should serve them well throughout the course of the season.

A Closer Look at the Outfielders

The Outfielders
This year’s SCF Baseball team will have a solid group of outfielders. The group is a mix of veterans and newcomers. The team will have a good blend of power and speed in the outfield.

The starters in the outfield will be:

Andrew Francis in left field he is a junior who batted .333 last season with 6 home runs and 26 RBIs. He is a good fielder with a strong arm. Expect him to be one of the leaders on the team offensively.

In center field will be freshman Ryan Roberts, who was drafted in the 5th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates He is an excellent athlete with good speed. He has the ability to hit for power and average. He is also a very good fielder with a strong arm.

Right field will be manned by senior Alex Thomson, who batted .276 last season with 2 home runs and 23 RBIs. He is a good fielder with decent speed. Expect him to improve his offensive numbers this season.

off the bench, the team will have some other solid outfielders who can come in and contribute when needed including:
-Sophomore Jake Foster, who batted .288 last season with 1 home run and 16 RBIs in limited action.
-Junior Matt Johnson, who batted .222 last season but has shown improvement this offseason.
-Senior Brian Wilson who has battled injuries throughout his career but when healthy is a very solid player.
-And freshman phenom Mikey Marshall, who was drafted in the 7th round by the Boston Red Sox He is an excellent athlete with good speed and potential to hit for power and average down the road

A Closer Look at the Pitchers

SCF baseball has a strong pitching staff this season, with a mix of experience and youth. Here’s a closer look at the pitchers on the roster:

Joey Joiner is the ace of the staff. A senior, he’s been with the team for four years and has been a key player during that time. He has a strong fastball and good control, and he’s also an excellent hitter. Expect him to be a key player on the team this year.

sophomore Nate Smith is another key pitcher. He’s tall and lanky, and he throws a lot of strikes. He doesn’t have quite as much velocity as Joiner, but he makes up for it with his excellent control. He’s also a good hitter, and he’ll likely see time in the outfield when he’s not pitching.

Rounding out the pitching staff are sophomore Jake Walters and freshman Matt Johnson. Walters is a lefty with Good Stuff while Johnson is a hard-throwing righty who should see some time in relief this season.

The Catchers: Who Will Be Catching for the SCF Baseball Team?

The Santa Cruz Fortress baseball team is set to have an exciting season, with a mix of new and veteran players. Here’s a look at the team’s catchers, who will be responsible for leading the team on the field.

Maxwell Goldstein: A veteran catcher, Goldstein has been with the team for three years and is a mentor to the younger players. He is a reliable presence behind the plate, and his experience will be invaluable to the team.

Ethan Wong: A rookie catcher, Wong was drafted by the SCF in the second round of the amateur draft. He is a highly-touted prospect who has shown great promise in Spring Training Wong will be looking to make an impact on the team this season.

The College World Series What to Expect If the SCF baseball team Makes It

The College World Series is the pinnacle of the collegiate baseball season If the Santa Cruz Frenzy Baseball Team makes it to Omaha, Nebraska for the tournament, here’s what to expect:

First and foremost, the games will be played at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha which has been home to the College World Series since 2011. The stadium has a capacity of 24,000, which is significantly larger than SCF’s Seabright Stadium. So if you’re lucky enough to get tickets, expect a packed house.

Secondly, the competition will be stiff. The Frenzy would likely face off against teams like UCLA, Florida State or LSU — all of which are powerhouse programs with rich histories in the College World Series

Lastly, expect the games to be broadcast on ESPN. This year’s tournament will be televised on ESPN2, ESPNU, and ESPNEWS. So if you can’t make it to Omaha in person, you can still catch all of the action from home.

The College World Series is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for any college baseball team. And if the Frenzy makes it there this year, it will surely be a thrilling experience for fans and players alike.
