The SEC Player of the Year

The SEC Player of the Year is an annual award given to the best player in the Eastern Conference (SEC) as voted on by a panel of SEC coaches. The award was first given out in 1980 and has been won by some of the best players in college basketball history, such as Charles Barkley Shaquille O’Neal, and Kevin Garnett.

This year’s SEC Player of the Year is Kentucky Wildcats freshman phenom Zion Williamson At 6’7″ and 285 pounds, Williamson is one of the most physically imposing players in college basketball He’s averaging 22.1 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 2.1 blocks per game for the Wildcats, who are currently ranked No. 1 in the nation.

In addition to being named SEC Player of the Year, Williamson is also a finalist for the Naismith Trophy (given to the nation’s top player), Wooden Award (given to the nation’s top player), and Oscar Robertson Trophy (given to the nation’s top player).

The SEC Defensive Player of the Year

The SEC Defensive Player of the Year is an annual award given to the best defensive player in the Eastern Conference (SEC). The award was first given out in 1987 and has been given out every year since then.

The SEC Defensive Player of the Year is voted on by a panel of SEC coaches and media members. The coach that wins the award gets to choose a charity to receive a $5,000 donation from the SEC.

Some of the past winners of the award include Shaquille O’Neal (LSU, 1991), Tim Duncan (Wake Forest 1997), Anthony Davis (Kentucky, 2012), and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (Kentucky, 2012).

The SEC Newcomer of the Year

The SEC Newcomer of the Year is an annual award given to the best newcomer in the SEC. The award was first given out in the 2017-18 Season and has been given out every year since. The award is voted on by the conference’s head coaches

Past winners of the award include:

2017-18: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Kentucky
2018-19: Reggie Perry, Mississippi State
2019-20: Kerry Blackshear Jr., Florida

The SEC Coach of the Year

The SEC Coach of the Year is an award given to the Head Coach of the best men’s basketball team in the SEC. This award was first given out in 1975 and has been given out every year since. The recipient of this award is voted on by a panel of SEC coaches and media members.

The SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year

The SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year is an annual award given to the student-athlete who best exemplifies academic success and athletic achievement. The award is presented by the SEC at the end of each academic year.

This year’s SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year is South Carolina Gamecocks basketball player A’Ja Wilson. Wilson is a senior who has been a key player for the Gamecocks over the past four years. She is a two-time All-American and was named the National Defensive Player of the Year in 2016. Wilson is also a two-time SEC Defensive Player of the Year and has been named to the All-SEC team three times.

In addition to her on-court accomplishments, Wilson has been a standout student, maintaining a 3.64 GPA while majoring in psychology. She has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll four times and was a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection in 2017.

The SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award is voted on by a committee of SEC faculty athletics representatives and Sports Information directors.

The SEC Community Service Team

The SEC Community Service Team is comprised of 12 student-athletes who have been recognized for their exceptional community service efforts. These student-athletes have made a significant impact in their communities through their volunteer work, and their commitment to giving back is truly inspirational.

The team is selected by a vote of the conference’s 14 sports information directors. Each director submits a list of five student-athletes from their school who they believe are deserving of this honor. The votes are then tallied, and the 12 student-athletes with the most votes are named to the team.

This year’s SEC Community Service Team includes:

Auburn’s Jordon Grayer, a junior forward on the Basketball team who has spent countless hours volunteering with various organizations, including the Humane Society and Habitat for Humanity;

Florida’s Taylor Gushue, a senior catcher on the baseball team who has been active with numerous charities, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Special Olympics

Georgia’s Maiya Foote, a senior guard on the women’s basketball team who has given her time to several organizations, including Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America;

Kentucky’s Alyssa Rice, a junior forward on the women’s Basketball team who has been involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Lexington Humane Society, and numerous other charities;

LSU’s Jalyn Patterson, a senior guard on the men’s basketball team who has volunteered with many different organizations during his time at LSU, including Habitat for Humanity and Baton Rouge General Hospital;

Ole Miss’ Breein Tyree, a junior guard on the men’s basketball team who is an active member of his community, participating in various events with Ole Miss Athletics’ REBELation Student-Athlete Advisory Committee; Mississippi State’s Nick Weatherspoon, a sophomore guard on the men’s basketball team who participates in numerous community service projects each year through Mississippi State Athletics’ Bulldog Service Squad; Missouri’s Kassidy Cook, a senior diver on the swimming & diving team who has given her time to several charities during her career at Missouri, including Camp Sunshine and Habitat for Humanity; South Carolina’s Maikia Mobley, a senior guard on the women’s basketball team who volunteers with multiple organizations each year through Gamecock Athletics’ CARES program; Tennessee’s Derrick Walker, a senior defensive lineman on the football team who spends his time off the field giving back to his community through various programs such as Read Across America and Boy Scouts of America; Texas A&M’s Chennedy Carter, a sophomore guard on the women’s Basketball team who dedicates her time to many different causes close to her heart including literacy initiatives and visitations to children’s hospitals; Vanderbilt’s Joe Toye, a junior forward on the men’s Basketball Team whose impressive work with local elementary schools earned him Vanderbilt’s 2017 Roberson Award for Community Service.

The SEC Sportsmanship Team

The SEC Sportsmanship Team is a prestigious award given to the team that exemplifies sportsmanship and fair play throughout the season. This is one of the most highly coveted awards in SEC Basketball and it is given to the team that exemplifies sportsmanship and fair play throughout the season.

The SEC tournament MVP

The SEC Tournament MVP is a Basketball Award given to the most outstanding player of the SEC Tournament The SEC Tournament is a single-elimination tournament composed of the top four seeds from each of the SEC’s two divisions, and is held annually at the end of the regular season

The recipient of the award is selected by a media panel, and is announced immediately following the Championship game The award was first given out in 1979, and has been won by some of the SEC’s most notable basketball players such as Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley and Patrick Ewing

Tyler Herro, Kentucky: Herro has been Kentucky’s leading scorer this season, averaging 16.6 points per game He’s also been a very efficient scorer, shooting 47.5 percent from the field and 39.5 percent from three-point range. Herro has been especially important to Kentucky’ success in SEC play, as he’s averaging 17.4 points per game in conference games while shooting 50 percent from three-point range.

Daniel Gafford, Arkansas: Gafford has been one of the best big men in College Basketball this season, averaging 16.9 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game for Arkansas . He’s been especially dominant in SEC play, averaging 17..7 points , 9..0 rebounds ,and 2..4 blocks per game while shooting 63..2 percent from the field .

PJ Washington , Kentucky: Washington has been a force for Kentucky this season , averaging 14..8 points and 7..5 rebounds per game . He’s also been very efficient , shooting 52..2 percent from the field and 41..3 percent from three-point range . Washington has really stepped up his play in SEC games , averaging 16..4 points and 8..0 rebounds while shooting 54…8 percent from the field .

The All-Tournament Team is always one of the most anticipated awards at the end of the SEC Basketball Tournament It’s a chance for the best players in the conference to be recognized for their outstanding play throughout the tournament.
