The St. John Fisher College men’s basketball team is excited to announce its 2018-2019 roster. This year’s team is a mix of experience and youth, with five seniors and six freshman making up the squad. Head Coach Frank Keffler will look to his seniors to provide leadership and stability, while the Young Guns will be counted on to provide an injection of energy and enthusiasm. The St John Fisher men’s Basketball team is made up of student athletes from around the country. Get to know the faces behind the jerseys with this quick guide to the team.

You’ll see a mix of returners and newcomers on the court this season. Leading the way for the returners is senior guard Andrew Ogilvy, who was named to the Preseason All-conference team. Newcomers to watch out for include freshman forward Max Kaplow, who comes to Fisher from New York, and sophomore guard transfer Alec Brooks, who played his freshman year at a Division I school.

This season, the team is coached by John Kenney, who is in his first year at Fisher. He’s joined by assistant coaches Rich feeling and Nate Gerwig. The team recently completed a successful preseason and is looking forward to a great year of basketball.

The St. John Fisher men’s basketball team is coming off a historic 2016-17 campaign in which the Cardinals captured their first ever Empire 8 conference championship and qualified for the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Coach Tony Fiorvanti
Entering his sixth season as head men’s basketball coach at St. John Fisher College Tony Fiorvanti has established the Cardinals as one of the top programs in the Empire 8 Conference. In his five seasons at the helm of the program, Fiorvanti has led Fisher to a 86-52 (.622) overall record that includes two 20-win seasons, an appearance in the 2016 ECAC Upstate New York Tournament Championship game and a berth in the 2017 NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Tournament

In 2017-18, Fiorvanti guided the Cardinals to a 19-9 overall record and an 11-5 mark in conference play as Fisher captured its first regular season championship since joining the Empire 8. The 19 wins were also the second most in program history as six different players reached double figures in scoring. Sophomore forward/center Kevin Bright was named both the Empire 8 Conference Defensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year, while he and junior guard Teddy Mwanay VSgion were both tabbed First Team All-Conference performers. To close out the year, senior guard Brandon Vaughan was named the Empire 8 Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year for men’s basketball.

Fiorvanti is no stranger to success on offense as his teams have finished in the top four of conference scoring in each of his five seasons. That includes leading Fisher to a school-record 84.0 points per game during their historic 2016-17 campaign when they set new standards for both wins (22) and winning percentage (.733). That team went on to earn an at-large berth into their first NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Tournament where they defeated Rosemont College before falling to eventual national runner-up FDU-Florham in overtime

The St. John Fisher College men’s Basketball team is composed of student-athletes from all over the country, each bringing their own set of skills to the court.

Kenny Hasbrouck, a redshirt senior from Saugus, Massachusetts, has been the leading scorer for the Cardinals for the past three seasons. Joining him in the starting lineup is junior Corey Trice from GRand Rapids Michigan. Trice is a versatile player who can shoot from long range and handle the ball well. Sophomore Davon Russell, from Newark, New Jersey, starts at forward and is a strong rebounder and defender. In the post is senior Robby Ptacek, from Rochester, New York. Ptacek is a four-year starter who provides leadership and experience to the team. Rounding out the starting lineup is junior point guard Matt Hulsie from Fairport, New York. Hulsie leads the team in assists and steals and has developed into a solid shooter.

The Cardinals have a deep bench with several underclassmen seeing significant playing time Freshman guard Joe O’Shea (Rochester, NY), sophomore forward Nate Wantuck (Auburn, NY), freshman forward Jimmy Pisciotti (West Seneca, NY) and freshman center Matt Kavanaugh ( Clarence Center , NY) have all made key contributions this season.

The St John Fisher men’s basketball team is gearing up for another season and they have a lot of talent on their roster. Here are some of the players to Watch This Season

-Senior guard, Joe LiViqque is the team’s leading scorer and was recently named to the All-conference first team.
-Junior forward, Marcus Raskins is a key player on both ends of the court and was named to the All-conference second team.
-Sophomore guard, Matt Lyons is one of the fastest players on the team and is a big part of the Fisher offense.
-Freshman forward, Nick Russo is expected to make an immediate impact on the team with his rebounding and shooting abilities.

It’s time to start getting to know the St John Fisher Basketball Roster head coach Nate Hodge is in his sixth season with the Cardinals, and he led the team to an impressive 20-9 record last year. With a strong core of returning players, the Cardinals are poised for another successful season

Assistant Coach Ryan Hogan will be working with the team’s big men this year. He’s a former college basketball player himself and has extensive experience working with post players

Guard Matt Zanchi is one of the team’s top scorers and he’ll be looked to for offense again this year. He’s a dynamic outside shooter with the ability to take over a game.

Forward Joe Girard is one of the team’s best defenders and rebounders. He brings a physical presence to the court and is always hustling after loose balls.

Center Ryan Erhardt is the tallest player on the team, and he uses his size to his advantage in the post. He’s a big body who can bang with the best of them down low.

The Cardinals have a deep bench this year, with plenty of talented players ready to step up when called upon. Keep an eye on guard Chris Polonitza, forward Steve Palmieri, and center Kevin Lamarque – they’re all waiting for their chance to shine.

The St John Fisher basketball team is made up of some of the most talented student athletes in the country. Get to know the team a little better with this Basketball Roster

-Willaims, David: A senior from Detroit, Michigan, David is a 6’8” Power Forward who is known for his tenacious defense and rebounding. He’s also one of the team’s most vocal leaders.

-Jones, Tyler: A junior from Chicago, Tyler is a 6’3” shooting guard who is lethal from beyond the arc. When he gets hot, there’s almost no stopping him.

-Smith, Jaden: A freshman from New York, Jaden is a 6’1” point guard with incredible vision and passing ability. He has a bright future ahead of him as one of the leaders of this team.

-Brown, Marcus: A sophomore from Toronto, Marcus is a 6’6” small forward who uses his length and athleticism to his advantage on both ends of the court.

Isaiah is a quick guard that uses his speed to his advantage on both ends of the court. He is a great scorer and strives to make everyone around him better.

Rory is our starting center. He is a big presence in the paint on both Offense and defense Rory has a great work ethic and is always looking to improve his game.

Marcus surveyor Junior Hometown: Rochester, NY Major: Biology Marcus plays power forward for us. He uses his 6’7” frame to battle for rebounds and put-backs on offense, and uses his long arms to block shots on defense.

The St John Fisher men’s Basketball team is set to have an exciting season and they have a lot of talent on their roster. In this article, we’ll introduce you to some of the Key Players on the team and tell you a little bit about their playing style.

Evan Anderson is a 6’7″ forward who is originally from Detroit, Michigan. He played his college basketball at Oakland University before transferring to St John Fisher. Evan is a very versatile player who can score inside and out. He is a very good rebounder and a good defender.

Derek Willis is a 6’9″ center who is originally from Chicago, Illinois. He played his college basketball at the University of Kentucky Derek is a very good shot blocker and rebounder. He is also a very good scorer inside the paint.

Riley LaChance is a 6’3″ guard who is originally from Brookfield, Wisconsin. He played his College Basketball at Vanderbilt University Riley is a very good shooter and he has the ability to score in various ways. He is also a very good defender.
