University of Hartford Baseball: A Team on the Rise

The Team’s History

The University of Hartford Baseball Team has a rich history, dating back to the late 1800s. The team has seen many highs and lows, but has always maintained a strong presence on campus and in the community. The team’s recent success is due in large part to the hard work of the Coaching Staff and players, who have come together to form a strong unit.

The team’s history is filled with Great players and coaches, who have left their mark on the program. One of the most notable figures in the team’s history is former head coach John Wooden who led the team to its first ever NCAA Division I tournament appearance in 1977. Since then, the team has gone on to make several more appearances in the tournament, including a run to the College World Series in 1989.

Under Head Coach Jim Penders, the team has seen a resurgence in recent years making back-to-back appearances in the American Athletic conference tournament The team is looking to build on this success in the coming years and establish itself as one of the top programs in the country.

The Team’s Record

The University of Hartford baseball team is coming off a great season in which they had a record of 34-19. This was good for second place in the America East Conference and they qualified for the conference tournament The team has been on the rise over the past few years, and they are hoping to continue their success this upcoming season

The team is led by senior captain, Ryan Chiaradio. Ryan is a pitcher who was named to the All-Conference first team last season. He is joined by fellow senior captains, infielder Nick Dombkowski and outfielder/pitcher Danbury, CT native Jay Klepinger. These three leaders will look to guide the team to another successful season

The pitching staff is anchored by junior right-hander Matt Blandino, who was named the conference’s Pitcher of the Year last season. He will be joined by a solid group of pitchers that includes seniors Tim C HM and Mike Devine, junior Jon Girodat, and sophomore Zacharyary Sherman.

The offense will be led by junior first baseman John Mazza, who was named to the All-Conference first team last season. Mazza is a power hitter who led the team in home runs (9) and RBIs (46). He will be joined in the lineup by several other key contributors, including seniors OF/DH Klepinger, 2B Dombkowski, and 3B Drew Ingleshio; junior OF/INF Isaac Cotto; and sophomores OF/INF Anthony Gingerelli and SS Anthony Capozziello.

The University of Hartford Hawks Baseball team is a NCAA Division I college baseball team competing in the America East Conference The Hawks are coached by Justin Blood and play their home games at Fiondella Field, located on the university’s West Hartford Connecticut campus.

The Hawks finished the 2019 season with a 20-34 record and a 13-13 conference record. They failed to qualify for the 2019 America East Tournament.

The 2020 season was slated to begin on February 14, 2020, but was ultimately cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to their on-field success, the team has also seen an increase in attendance at their home games
