America East Baseball Introduction

In Division I college baseball the America East Conference has sent a team to the NCAA tournament every year since 2009. The conference has also produced two College World Series participants (Stony Brook in 2012 and Maine in 1986). America East Baseball is widely regarded as one of the best mid-major conferences in the sport.

The conference is made up of nine teams- all located in the Northeast region of the United States The teams are Binghamton, Albany, Maine, Hartford, UMBC, UMass Lowell Stony Brook New Hampshire, and Vermont.

America Eastosa team has won five consecutive conference championships (Stony Brook from 2012-2016). Stony Brook is also the only team in America East history to win three consecutive conference tournament championships (2014-2016). In 2017, UMBC won both the regular season and conference tournament titles, becoming the first team other than Stony Brook to win either championship since 2013.

The America East commissioner is Amy Huchthausen.

America East Baseball The Teams

The America East Conference sponsors eight teams in NCAA Division I baseball. The conference is relatively young, having started in 1979, but it has been home to some very successful programs. Here is a brief look at the teams that make up the America East

The Binghamton Bearcats have been one of the most successful teams in the conference, winning five regular season titles and four conference championships. The Bearcats have made three trips to the NCAA Tournament most recently in 2013.

The Stony Brook Seawolves have also been very successful since joining the conference in 1991. The Seawolves have won five Regular Season titles and four conference championships, including three straight from 2011-2013. Stony Brook has made three trips to the NCAA tournament most recently in 2016.

The Hartford Hawks are one of the original members of the conference, having joined in 1979. The Hawks have won two regular season titles and two conference championships. Hartford made its only trip to the NCAA tournament in 2005.

The UMBC Retrievers joined the conference in 2003 and have quickly become a force to be reckoned with. The Retrievers have won two Regular Season titles and one conference championship UMBC made its only trip to the NCAA tournament in 2007.

The UMass Lowell River Hawks joined the conference in 2013 and have already won two regular season titles and one Conference Championship The River Hawks made their first trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2014.

The Albany Great Danes are another original member of the conference, having joined in 1979. The Great Danes have won one regular season title and one conference championship. Albany made its first and only trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2006.

The America East Conference Baseball Tournament is the conference Baseball Tournament for the America East Conference The tournament has been held every year since 1987. It is a double-elimination tournament and seeding is based on Regular season records. The winner of the tournament receives the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament

The event was first held in 1987, with all games played at Mahaney Diamond in Orono, Maine—the home field of regular season champions Maine. The event remained at Mahaney Diamond through 1989, after which it moved to Fairchild Field in Storrs, Connecticut—the home venue of regular season champions Connecticut. It would remain there through 2005, with the exception of 1998 when it was played at Merrimack College in North Andover Massachusetts due to ongoing renovations to Fairchild Field. In 2006, following the departure of Connecticut to the Big East Conference the tournament was rotated among all participating schools’ home venues—a practice that continues to this day. As such, no team has an advantage or disadvantage in terms of venue familiarity.
