UIS Men’s Basketball Defeats Lincoln to Advance to GLVC Tournament Championship
The University of Illinois Springfield men’s Basketball team earned a hard-fought victory over Lincoln Saturday night, winning 72-69 to advance to the Great Lakes Valley conference tournament Championship game
It was a classic battle of two evenly-matched teams, with neither team able to gain more than a six-point lead throughout the contest. UIS Senior guard David Clayton led the way for the Prairie Stars, scoring a game-high 21 points. Lincoln’s Jordan discharge was right behind him with 20 points of his own.
The game was ultimately decided in the final minutes, with UIS guard Josh Raby hitting a clutch three-pointer with 1:30 remaining to give the Prairie Stars a 70-69 lead. Lincoln had a chance to tie the game on their next possession, but Disch failed to convert on a layup attempt. UIS forward Keaton Stuttig then sealed the victory by hitting two Free throws with 14 seconds left.
The win improves UIS’s record to 23-7 on the season, and they will now face Drury in the GLVC Tournament Championship game Sunday afternoon.

The Game
The University of Illinois Springfield men’s Basketball team used a 20-4 run over the final 7:38 of regulation to erase a 12-point deficit and take a 79-75 victory over Lincoln in the GLVC Tournament semifinals on Sunday afternoon at The Recreation and Athletic Center.
UIS, the tournament’s No. 3 seed, improves to 17-13 overall and advances to the title game for the first time in program history. The Prairie Stars will face second-seeded Drury on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. CT for the right to advance to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional.
Lincoln, which was making its first appearance in the GLVC semifinals since joining the league prior to last season, ends its campaign at 15-15 overall.
The Win
The UIS men’s basketball team defeated Lincoln 81-64 in the GLVC Tournament semifinals on Friday Night advancing to the Championship game for the first time in program history.
The Prairie Stars will take on Southern Illinois Edwardsville in the title game on Sunday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m. at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana.
UIS entered the tournament as the No. 4 seed and knocked off No. 5 Truman State in the quarterfinals on Thursday night Lincoln, the No. 1 seed, was making its first appearance in the GLVC Tournament since joining the conference this season.
The Prairie Stars jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back, leading by double digits for most of the game. UIS shot 50 percent from the field and made 10 three-pointers, while holding Lincoln to just 32 percent shooting from the floor.
Junior guard David Levin led UIS with 21 points, while senior forward Ryan McAdams added 14 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore guard AJ Washington also chipped in with 11 points off the bench.
With the win, UIS improves to 20-9 on the season and will now wait to see if they receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament. The selection show is set for Sunday night at 9:00 p.m.
The Fans
The fans were the story of the game, providing a huge boost to the UIS men’s basketball team as they defeated Lincoln 72-69 to advance to the GLVC tournament championship. The upset victory was due in large part to the passionate support of the fans, who were out in force to cheer on their team.
The team got off to a slow start, but the fans kept them in it with their constant cheering. The players fed off of the energy and finally got going in the second half. They took the lead midway through the second half and never looked back, holding off a late charge from Lincoln to seal the victory.
It was an amazing performance from start to finish, and it would not have been possible without the support of the fans. Thank you for everything!
The Future
The University of Illinois Springfield men’s basketball team is headed to the Championship game of the Great Lakes Valley conference tournament for the first time in program history.
The Prairie Stars (23-9) defeated Lincoln (17-15) by a score of 73-60 in the semifinals on Sunday afternoon at The Recreation and Athletic Center to advance to the title game.
UIS will face Truman (24-8) in the championship game on Tuesday, March 10 at 7:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.

UIS Men’s Basketball Season
The University of Illinois Springfield men’s Basketball team advanced to the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament championship game with a 67-61 victory over Lincoln Memorial University on Sunday afternoon at the Ford Center.
UIS will face Southern Indiana in the championship game on Tuesday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m. The Screaming Eagles defeated the Eagles 73-64 in Edwardsville on January 12.
This will be the third meeting between UIS and Southern Indiana this season. The two teams splitting the regular season series with each team winning on its home court

The University of Illinois Springfield men’s Basketball Team defeated Lincoln University 72-69 in the semifinals of the Great Lakes Valley conference tournament on Sunday afternoon at the Ford Center. With the win, the Prairie Stars improve to 25-6 on the season and advance to the championship game for the first time in program history.
Lincoln (15-16) was led by Tashawn Mabry with 18 points and eight rebounds. David Small added 12 points and five assists off the bench for the Blue Tigers. UIS was led by senior center Kourtland Tyree with 20 points, eight rebounds and four blocks. Senior guard Michael Ballock added 16 points, six rebounds and four assists while senior forward Chris Morrissey tallied 12 points and 11 rebounds.
UIS Men’s Basketball History
The UIS men’s Basketball team has a long and storied history, dating back to the early days of the program. The team has won conference championships and made appearances in the NCAA Division II Tournament. In recent years the team has been one of the top teams in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), winning conference titles in 2013 and 2016.
