Introduction
The Utah State Hockey Team is a relatively new program that is quickly making a name for itself. The team is a Division I program that competes in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). The Aggies have only been playing hockey since the 2015-2016 season, but they have already made tremendous strides. In just their second season of play, the Aggies finished 4th in the WCHA and made it to the WCHA Tournament for the first time in program history. The team has continued to improve each year, and they are now one of the top teams in the conference.
The Aggies are led by Head Coach Mike Eaves, who is a former NHL player and Stanley Cup winner. Coach Eaves has done an incredible job with the team, and he has them poised for continued success in the future. History
In 2017, the Utah State Aggies Ice Hockey team made history when they became the first and only team from the state of Utah to compete in the American Collegiate Hockey Association’s (ACHA) Division I National Tournament The Aggies have been a part of the ACHA since 2013, and have quickly become a team to reckon with, making it to the ACHA National Tournament in three of their five seasons.
The Utah State Hockey Program began in 2013, when then-head coach Tyler Dittman led a group of 30 student-athletes in forming a club team. In their inaugural season, the Aggies played a mix of club and Division III teams and compiled a record of 12-12-1. The following season, Utah State joined the ACHA as a Division II team and won their first conference championship After moving up to Division I in 2015, the Aggies have continued to find success, making it to the ACHA National Tournament three times in five seasons.
The Aggies are led by Head Coach Mark Provenzano, who took over the program prior to the 2016-17 season Under Provenzano’s guidance, Utah State has amassed a record of 81-27-5 over the last three seasons, including two trips to the ACHA National Tournament. In addition to on-ice success, Provenzano has also helped his student-athletes find success in the classroom, as evidenced by his team’s 3.2 cumulative GPA.
The future is bright for Utah State Hockey and with continued success on and off the ice, it’s only a matter of time before they become one of the top programs in collegiate hockey.
