UVM Men’s Hockey: Introduction

UVM Men’s Hockey is one of the most successful college hockey programs in the country. The team has won 5 National Championships and has been to the Frozen Four 18 times. The team is currently coached by Kevin Sneddon and captained by Marc Del Gaizo.

UVM Men’s Hockey: Schedule

The UVM men’s Hockey Team is back in action this weekend as they travel to take on Clarkson. The team is coming off a tough loss to St. Lawrence last weekend and will be looking to get back on track against the Golden Knights Here’s a look at the roster for the weekend:

Forwards

-Senior captain Mario Puskarich (20 points, 8 goals, 12 assists) will lead the way up front for the Catamounts. Puskarich is coming off a strong performance against SLU in which he had a goal and an assist.

-Sophomore Rob Darrar (7 points, 3 goals, 4 assists) has been one of the most consistent forwards for UVM this season. Darrar has skated in all 26 games for the Catamounts and has tallied at least one point in four of his last five contests.

-Junior Brian Bowen (6 points, 2 goals, 4 assists) has also been a key contributor for UVM this season. Bowen has skated in all 26 games and has registered two goals and two assists in his last four contests.

Defensemen

-Senior captain Jake Massie (5 points, 1 goal, 4 assists) will anchor the Catamount defense this weekend. Massie is a steady presence on the blue line and will be counted on to shut down Clarkson’s offense.

-Sophomore Andrew Furneaux (3 points, 1 goal, 2 assists) has also been solid on defense for UVM this season. Furneaux has skated in 25 games and has tallied a point in three of his last five contests.

UVM Men’s Hockey: Results

UVM’s game against Northeastern was originally scheduled for Saturday, January 19th at 7 PM, but was moved to Sunday, January 20th at 4 PM due to weather. The Catamounts fell to the Huskies 3-2 in a hard-fought battle.

The UVM men’s Hockey team is currently in the midst of their 2019-2020 season The Catamounts have compiled a record of 5-11-4 so far this season. The team’s next game is scheduled for Saturday, February 1st against the University of New Hampshire. Puck drop is set for 7 PM.

UVM Men’s Hockey: Tickets

Every year, the UVM men’s hockey team takes the ice with high hopes of bringing a championship back to Burlington. This season is no different, and with a talented roster of forwards, defensemen and goaltenders, the Catamounts have what it takes to make a run at the title.

If you’re thinking about coming out to support the team this season, here’s a quick guide to the roster so you can get to know some of the Key Players

Forwards:

-Senior captain Brady Shaw is the team’s leading scorer and one of its most experienced players. A gifted goal-scorer, Shaw has tallied more than 60 points in each of his three seasons with the Catamounts and will be counted on to provide leadership on and off the ice.

-junior Rob Darrar is another experienced player who has been a key contributor since he arrived at UVM. A versatile forward who can play both wing and center, Darrar is an excellent two-way player who is strong in all three zones.

-Sophomore Craig Puffer is one of the team’s most promising young players A natural goal-scorer with a quick Release, Puffer had a breakout rookie season and will be counted on to provide offense again this year.

Defensemen:

-Senior captain Tom Forgione is one of the best defenseman in college hockey A physical presence on the blue line Forgione is also an excellent puck-mover who can contribute offensively. He’ll be asked to anchor a young defensive corps this season.

-Sophomore Drew Lucas is another Defenseman who made big strides as a freshman last season. A smart, steady player who reads the play well, Lucas will be counted on to play big minutes against opponents’ top lines.

UVM Men’s Hockey: Shop

Alex Esposito
Espo, 21, is a 5-11, 190-pound forward from Westport, Conn. He wasselected in the third round (77th overall) by the Nashville Predators in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft and recently completed his junior season at Boston University where he tallied 12 goals and 17 assists for 29 points in 39 games. Prior to BU, Esposito played two seasons of Junior hockey with the Tri-City Storm of the United States Hockey League where he amassed 54 goals and 57 assists for 111 points in 124 games.

Some of the most successful alumni in UVM men’s hockey history have gone on to have decorated professional careers. These include 2017 Hobey Baker Award winner and current NHL All-Star Will Butcher ’17, who was selected in the fifth round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche
