WVU Women’s Basketball Roster
The West Virginia University Mountaineers women’s Basketball team represents West Virginia University in NCAA Division I college basketball competition. They are the winningest team in Mountaineer sports history. The Mountaineers have been to sixteen NCAA Tournaments and have reached the Sweet Sixteen six times. They have also been to two WNIT tournaments, winning the title in 2007. The team is currently coached by Mike Carey.
WVU Women’s Basketball Schedule
The West Virginia University women’s basketball team will open its 2019-20 season on Nov. 5 at home against UMES. The Mountaineers will then play host to Rhode Island on Nov. 7 before hitting the road for a pair of games, first at Hofstra on Nov. 10 and then at Pitt on Nov. 13. WVU will return home to take on James Madison on Nov. 17 before closing out the month of November with a trip to East Carolina on Nov. 21.

The Mountaineers are coming off a 23-10 season in which they finished tied for fifth in the Big 12 Conference with an 11-7 record. WVU reached the postseason for the 13th consecutive year, earning a berth in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament
WVU is coached by Mike Carey, who is entering his 16th season at the helm of the program. Carey has guided the Mountaineers to nine 20-win seasons, 12 postseason appearances and four WNIT berths. He has a career record of 326-182 (.641) at WVU and 489-268 (.645) overall.

Head Coach Mike Carey enters his fourteenth season at the helm of the Mountaineers. He has led WVU to thirteen consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, including five Sweet Sixteen appearances and one Elite Eight appearance. In 2017, he was named the Big 12 Coach of the Year after leading WVU to a share of the Big 12 regular season title.
The Mountaineers are led by senior guard Naomi Davenport, who was named a preseason All-American by multiple media outlets. Davenport led WVU in scoring last season with 17.0 points per game and also averaged 6.7 rebounds per game. She will be joined in the backcourt by junior Chania Ray, who averaged 8.5 points per game last season and led the team with 2.9 assists per game
In the frontcourt, junior center Krystal Weaver will look to build on her breakout sophomore season in which she averaged 10.4 points and 7.3 rebounds per game while shooting 58 percent from the field. She will be joined by seniors Teresa Toro and Lanay Montgomery, who combined to average 15 points and 9 rebounds per game last season.
The Mountaineers will open their season on November 6 with an exhibition game against Concord University before opening their regular season at home against Stony Brook on November 11. WVU Women’s Basketball Venues
WVU home games are played at the WVU Coliseum, located on the Evansdale campus of West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia The Coliseum opened in 1970 and has a capacity of 14,000. It is the largest on-campus arena in the state of West Virginia and is the home venue for the men’s and women’s basketball teams as well as the wrestling team.
The Mountaineers have played at the Coliseum since it opened in 1970. The arena underwent a $22 million renovation prior to the 2010 season that added a new center-hung scoreboard, LED lighting chair-back seating throughout the lower seating bowl, and a new sound system. The Coliseum has also been the site of NCAA tournament games 10 times, most recently in 2019.
