Few players in the NBA have had as much of a breakout season as Shaun Livingston. The former number four overall pick in the 2004 NBA draft has been a revelation for the Golden State Warriors averaging a career-high 11.7 points, 5.0 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game while shooting an astonishing 52.3 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from three-point range.

Livingston is one of the main reasons why the Warriors have been one of the best teams in the Western Conference this season and he was recently named the Western Conference Player of the Week after averaging 19.3 points, 7.0 assists and 4.7 rebounds while shooting 60 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range in three Warriors wins.

There is no doubt that Livingston has been one of the most pleasant surprises in the NBA this season and he looks like he could be a key piece for the Warriors for years to come.

Livingston’s Impressive Rookie Season

Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson has been named the NBA’s Western Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

The No. 1 overall pick in last year’s draft averaged 27.8 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists while shooting 56% from the field and 63% from 3-point range as New Orleans posted a 4-0 record.

“Zion Williamson continues to dazzle Pelicans fans and opponents alike with his electric play,” said Pelicans executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin in a statement. “He impacts the game in so many ways and we are thrilled that he is being recognized for his outstanding work this past week.”

Williamson, who turns 20 on Monday, is the fourth Pelican to win the award this season, joining fellow rookies Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball as well as veteran guard Jrue Holiday

Livingston’s Journey to the NBA

Livingston was born in Peoria, Illinois and attended Peoria High School He was a three-time all-conference selection in basketball, and as a senior, he was named the Conference Player of the Year. He played in the state championship game as a junior and senior, but lost both times. Livingston was also an all-state selection in football. He originally committed to play football at the University of Illinois but instead chose to enter the NBA Draft

Livingston’s high school Career

NBA Star of the Week, Livingston, who hails from New Jersey, had a stellar high school career. He was a four-time All-State selection and a McDonald’s All-American. As a senior, he led his team to the state championship game where they lost to eventual National Champion St. Anthony’s. He finished his career with 2,001 points, which is good for fourth all-time in New Jersey high school history.

Livingston’s College Career

Livingston graduated from Peoria high school in Illinois in 2004. He was not highly recruited coming out of high school and only had one Division I offer, from the University of Miami As a freshman at Miami, Livingston played limited minutes, averaging 2.5 points and 1.3 assists in eleven minutes per game. After his freshman year, he considered transferring to another school but opted to stay at Miami.

As a sophomore, Livingston’s playing time increased to 16.7 minutes per game. He improved his scoring to 5.6 points per game while adding 2.1 assists and 1 steal per game. After the season, he transferred to Kansas State University

Livingston sat out the 2006-2007 season due to NCAA transfer rules and became eligible to play for Kansas State in 2007-2008. He started all 35 games for the Wildcats, averaging 12 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists per game while shooting 50% from the field. In 2008-2009, Livingston’s numbers dipped a bit as he averaged 11 points per game but he still managed to start all 33 games for Kansas State

After his junior year, Livingston decided to forgo his senior season and declared himself eligible for the 2009 NBA Draft He was not selected in the draft but did sign a free agent deal with the Miami Heat where he spent training camp before being waived prior to the start of the season.
