NCCU Roster
The North Carolina Central University basketball team is composed of 13 student athletes from all over the country, with diverse backgrounds and skillsets. Here is a brief introduction to each of the team members:
Guard Jayden Scrubb hails from Hopkinsville, Kentucky. The 6’4” sophomore is averaging 18.5 points and 5.9 rebounds per game
Forward Jibri Blount, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is a 6’7” senior who is averaging 16.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game
R-Senior guard Randy Miller Jr. is a native of Brooklyn, New York. The 6’3” guard is averaging 11 points per game
Forward Anthony McKenzie is originally from Winston-Salem, North Carolina The 6’8” redshirt senior is averaging 10 points and 5 rebounds per game.
Junior guard John Newman III comes from Greensboro, North Carolina and is averaging 9 points per game
Redshirt junior guard Ruben GUerra was born in San Juan Puerto Rico and is also averaging 9 points per contest..
Rounding out the roster are: Redshirt sophomore forward Jeffrey Solomon (Houston, TX), redshirt freshman forward Tariq Ingraham (Queens, NY), freshman forward Jordan Perkins (Oakland, CA), freshman guard Kobe Langley (Durhams NC) ,and freshman center Manny Bates (Holly Springs NC).
Who’s Who?
The North Carolina Central University Eagles Basketball team is representing the university in the 2019-20 NCAA Division I men’s basketball season The Eagles, led by third-year Head Coach LeVelle Moton, play their home games at McDougald–McLendon Arena in Durham, North Carolina as members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference
The Starting Five
The Starting Five is comprised of the five starting players for a basketball team In college basketball the Starting Five typically consists of the best and most experienced players on the team. They are usually the players who have been with the team for the longest time and have played the most games.
The NCCU Basketball team’s Starting Five for the 2020 season are:
--Mikal Bridges Forward
--Zach Collins Center
--Marvin Bagley III Forward
--Lonzo Ball Point Guard
-De’Aaron Fox, Shooting Guard
The Bench
The NCCU Eagles have a strong team this year and they will be looking to make some noise in the NCAA tournament Here is a closer look at the bench players who will be key to their success.
Redshirt freshman big man Jacob Boonyasith has been recovering from an ACL injury and is finally healthy and ready to play. He is a skilled post player who can score inside and is a good rebounder. He will be backing up senior center Justin McKoy.
Sophomore wingman Khalil Richards is one of the best three-point shooters on the team. He played limited minutes as a freshman but has worked hard to earn a spot in the rotation this season. He will provide valuable outside shooting and energy off the bench.
Junior point guard Jordan Perkins is another guy who can knock down threes. He was injured for part of last season but is now healthy and ready to contribute. Perkins is a good ball-handler and passer who can also score if necessary. He will back up senior guard Dajuan Graf.
The Coaches
CCU Basketball is led by its two head coaches Kevin Keatts and Jeff Capel. Both men have extensive experience coaching at the collegiate level, and each has led his team to success on the court.
Coach Keatts is in his third season as head coach of the NCCU men’s Basketball team He has led the team to two NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the Sweet Sixteen in 2019. Coach Keatts is known for his high-pressure defense and fast-paced offense.
Coach Capel is in his first season as Head Coach of the NCCU women’s basketball team He previously served as Head coach at Duke University where he led the team to four straight NCAA tournament appearances. Coach Capel is known for his commitment to player development and his ability to recruit top talent.
The Fans
NCCU fans are some of the most diehard and passionate in all of college basketball They are always ready to cheer on their team, no matter the situation. And when it comes to supporting the Eagles, they definitely know their stuff!
So, who are some of the most iconic and well-known NCCU basketball fans? Here are just a few of the standouts:
The Birdman: One of the most recognizable NCCU fans, The Birdman is known for his outrageous antics and entertaining behavior. He is often seen wearing a costume covered in feathers, and he is always ready to make some noise to support his team.
Miss NCCU: Another well-known fan, Miss NCCU is known for her passion and spirit. She can be seen at almost every Home game cheering on her team. She is also known for her support of the student-athletes, as she often helps out with fundraisers and other events.
The Superfans: A group of diehard NCCU fans, The Superfans can be seen at every home game dressed in their Eagle gear from head-to-toe. They are known for their dedication to the team and their love of College Basketball
