The team’s Head Coach Julie Goodenough, has led the team to three consecutive American Southwest conference championships and four NCAA Division III Tournament appearances. Coach Goodenough stressed the importance of building a strong foundation in the off-season so that the team can be prepared to compete at a high level during the regular season

The players have been working hard to improve their individual skillsets as well as learning to play as a cohesive unit. The team’s captain, senior guard Katie webb, believes that the key to success is “being unselfish and playing for each other”.

The Team’s History

TheHardin-Simmons women’s Basketball team represents Hardin–Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. The team currently competes in the American West Conference of NCAA Division III HSU has an all-time record of 1,014–643 (.613), 3 NCAA Division II Tournament appearances, and 6 conference championships.

The team has been coached by Cayla Petree since 2018. Coach Petree is the only coach in the program’s history to have led the Cowgirls to an NCAA tournament appearance. In her first season leading the Cowgirls, she led them to a 21–4 overall record and a 14–2 conference record. The Cowgirls finished the season ranked No. 23 in the nation by the Woman’s Basketball Coaches Association and won their first ASC championship since 2011.
