2019-20 SEC Basketball season Preview
The 2019-20 SEC basketball season is shaping up to be an exciting one, with plenty of talented teams and players vying for a spot in the NCAA tournament Here’s a look at what to expect from each team in the conference this season.
Alabama: The Crimson Tide are coming off a disappointing 18-19 season but they have a talented roster that should be able to compete for an NCAA Tournament berth this year. Led by sophomore guard Kira Lewis Jr., Alabama has the potential to be one of the most improved teams in the SEC.
Arkansas: The Razorbacks are coming off a solid 2018-19 season, in which they made the NCAA tournament and won a game before losing to eventual National Champion Virginia. Arkansas has a talented roster that includes several experienced players, and they should be able to compete for an NCAA tournament berth once again this year.
Auburn: The Tigers are coming off a historic 2018-19 season in which they won the SEC regular season and tournament titles, as well as made the Final Four for the first time in program history. Auburn is looking to build on that success this year, and they have the talent to do so, with several Key Players returning from last year’s team.
Florida: The Gators are coming off a disappointing 2018-19 season, but they have a talented roster that should be able to compete for an NCAA tournament berth this year. Florida is led by senior guard KeVaughn Allen, who is one of the best shooters in the SEC.
Georgia: The Bulldogs are coming off a solid 2018-19 season, in which they finished above .500 and made the NIT. Georgia has a young but promising roster, led by sophomore guard Anthony Edwards who is one of the top recruits in the country.
Kentucky: The Wildcats are coming off another successful season in which they won the SEC regular season and tournament titles and made it to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament Kentucky is once again one of the favorites to win the conference this year, thanks to their large group of talented freshmen

Tennessee Volunteers Basketball
The Tennessee Volunteers basketball team represents the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee. The Volunteers compete in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Eastern Conference (SEC). The Vols have played their home games in Thompson-Boling Arena since 1987. The current Head Coach of the Volunteers is Cuonzo Martin, who was hired on March 15, 2011.
In 1924, Robert Neyland was hired as Tennessee’s head football coach and John R. Bender as its first basketball coach On February 21, 1925, Tennessee defeated Kentucky 36–5 at the second annual SEC tournament for its first ever conference championship
The following year, UT formed a combined basketball and track team known as the “Tennessee Volunteers Track Club” which competed in interscholastic meets around the region. The first recorded game occurred on February 13, 1926 against Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City withcontroller Humes scoring all 27 points for UT to win 27–14. On December 7, 1926 UT beat Kentucky 25 to 15 at Kentucky’s Alumni Gymnasium in Lexington. This was Kentucky’s first defeat ever at home; it came during Kentucky’s first season under legendary coach Adolph Rupp.
In 1929 Jules Pliego becomes head coach approach his task with “million-dollar bankroll.” He led the Vols to a perfect 18–0 season including wins over each Southern Conference rival; his 1929 squad is still recognized as one of college basketball’s all-time great teams. Pliego coached from 1929 through 1938 compiling a 175–66 record (.725 winning percentage), five Southern Conference Regular Season titles and four Southern conference tournament championships.

Mississippi State men’s basketball coach Rick Stansbury is not a fan of the term “rebuilding year.”
Stansbury, entering his 12th season in Starkville, has guided the Bulldogs to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances and six 20-win seasons. He has coached future NBA players like Jarvis Varnado, Wallace and Travis Outlaw. So when Stansbury hears people talk about MSU as a team in transition or a program that might struggle this season, he doesn’t take kindly to it.
“I don’t like that word (rebuilding),” Stansbury said at SEC Media Days in October. “I never will use it as long as I’m coaching. We do have some young guys, but we also have some experienced guys. I like where our team is at right now. I really do. I think we have a chance to be a pretty good basketball team ”
Alabama Crimson Tide Basketball
The Alabama Crimson Tide basketball team represents the University of Alabama in NCAA Division I men’s basketball. The program has a long history, dating back to 1906. The Crimson Tide have appeared in 27 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournaments winning 7 championships. Since the formation of the Eastern Conference (SEC) in 1933, Alabama has won 13 SEC Tournament titles and 17 SEC regular season titles.
Florida Gators Basketball
The Florida Gators men’s basketball team represents the University of Florida in the sport of basketball. The Gators compete in NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball and the Eastern Conference (SEC). home games are played in the Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center on the university’s Gainesville, Florida campus.
The Gators began play in 1915 and have enjoyed success throughout their history, including two National Championships (in 2006 and 2007), five Final Fours appearances, and numerous SEC titles. They have appeared in the NCAA tournament thirty-two times, winning twenty-nine of their first thirty-three appearances, and have made it to the Elite Eight on thirteen occasions. The Gators have also appeared in eighteen National Invitation Tournaments (NIT), winning eleven of them.

The Missouri Tigers Basketball team represents the University of Missouri in the SEC. The Tigers compete in Division I of the NCAA and are a founding member of the SEC. The team is currently coached by Cuonzo Martin and plays its Home Games at Mizzou Arena on campus in Columbia, Missouri.
The Missouri Tigers Basketball Team began play in 1906. The program has produced 24 total conference championships 5 Regular Season conference titles, and 34 NCAA Tournament appearances. Missouri’s five regular season SEC titles are the most of any school not currently in the ACC or SEC since the league’s expansion to 14 teams in 1991 (not counting regular season co-champions). The Tigers have also won 12 SEC Tournament titles, which is second only to Kentucky’s 16 titles.
The program has appeared in 5 Final Fours (1940, 1953, 2002, 2003, 2009), which is tied for 9th all-time as of 2019. They were runners-up in the 1932 and 1989 NCAA Tournaments. The 1950 Missouri squad was retroactively named the national champion by the Premo-Porretta Power Poll and Helms Athletic Foundation; they were also awarded first place by Collaborative Media Sources (now Sagarin Ratings) when those rankings debuted retroactively for the 1949–50 season. The 1968 squad finished third in ESPN’s 50 Greatest Teams ranking released during that network’s coverage of college basketball’s 100th anniversary celebration in 2006. In October 2010, an ESPN poll voted Mizzou as “the best college basketball program never to have won a national championship”.
