Introduction

The Cal State Northridge Baseball Team is a college baseball team that competes in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The team is a member of the Big West Conference. They play their home games at Matador Field on the campus of California State University Northridge in Los Angeles California.

The team has appeared in two College World Series in 1985 and 1986. They have also won four conference championships in 1981, 1982, 1983, and 1985. The team is currently coached by Greg Moore.

Roster

The CSUN baseball team is composed of 25 student athletes. 17 of these athletes are freshmen, 4 are sophomores, 3 are juniors, and 1 is a senior. Of the 25 athletes, 10 are pitchers, 2 are catchers, 6 are infielders, and 7 are outfielders. The team’s statistics from the 2019 season are as follows:

Schedule

The baseball team at Cal State Northridge will be looking to improve on last year’s record of 24-26. They play their home games at Matador Field, which has a capacity of 1,500 fans. The team is currently scheduled to play 56 games, 27 of which will be at home. Out of conference, they will face teams such as USC, UCLA, San Diego State and Pepperdine.

Results

The Cal State Northridge Baseball team had a very successful 2018 season. They had a record of 42-20 and made it to the NCAA tournament In the tournament, they made it to the regional finals, where they lost to eventual National Champion Ole Miss

The team is led by Head Coach Greg Moore, who is in his fourth season with the program. Coach Moore has a career record of 154-98 at CSUN. He has guided the team to three NCAA Tournament appearances, including two in the last three years.

The team is loaded with talent, led by senior infielder/pitcher Matt Duffy Duffy was named the Big West Conference player of the year after hitting .341 with 13 home runs and 58 RBIs. He was also named a first-team All-American by Baseball America Duffy is joined in the infield by junior third baseman Jake Pries, who hit .306 with 10 home runs and 45 RBIs.

The pitching staff is anchored by junior right-hander Dylan Stuart, who went 10-3 with a 2.74 ERA in 2018. Stuart was named the Big West Conference pitcher of the year and was also named a first-team All-American by Baseball America He is joined in the rotation by senior left-hander Andrew Alvarez (9-4, 3.22 ERA) and junior right-hander Steve Ascher (7-5, 3.86 ERA). The bullpen is anchored by senior right-hander Connor O’Brien, who had nine saves and a 1.96 ERA in 2018.
