Mark Hupp, a former college baseball player, is taking his talents to the professional level. Hupp, who played for two years at Division III spoiler Illinois Wesleyan University will be joining the independent league Joliet Slammers for the 2020 season.
Hupp was a Standout Player during his time with the Titans, posting a .339 batting average with five home runs and 36 RBIs in his senior year. He was also named a first-team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
The Titans made an appearance in the NCAA Division III World Series in both of Hupp’s years on the team, finishing as runners-up in 2019.

Mark Hupp was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 2nd round of the 2018 Major League Baseball amateur draft. He made his professional debut with the Dayton Dragons of the Class A Midwest League in 2019.
In 2020, he was promoted to the Chattanooga Lookouts of the Class AA Southern League.

“He was always calm on the mound and never got too worked up,” Hupp said. “I try to take that same approach into every game.”
So far, Hupp has been impressive in his first taste of Professional Baseball In 12 starts with Jackson, he’s 6-2 with a 3.38 ERA. He’s struck out 80 batters in 76 innings pitched
Now that he’s made it to Double-A, Hupp is one step closer to his ultimate goal of pitching in the Major Leagues And he’s not taking anything for granted along the way.
“I’m just trying to work hard every day and get better,” Hupp said. “I know there’s a lot of tough competition out there, so I just have to keep improving if I want to reach my goals.”

A: My goal is simple – I want to be the best player I can be and help my team win. I’m looking forward to continuing my development as a player and helping my team compete for championships.
What advice does he have for aspiring pros?

“First and foremost, you have to have a passion for the game,” he said. “You have to be willing to put in the time and effort to get better.”
