After one season with the Bobcats, Johnson was traded back to the Raptors. He played for the Raptors for another two years before signing with CSKA Moscow of Russia’s VTB United League in 2012. Johnson played 3 seasons with CSKA Moscow winning a League Championship in 2016. In 2019, he signed a one-year deal to return to the NBA and play for the Miami Heat

Ben Johnson, a 6’8″ tall power forward from the United States has had an interesting Basketball Journey that has led him all around the world. After playing collegiately at the University of Arizona Johnson began his professional career in Europe with stops in Turkey, Italy, and Germany. In each of those countries, Johnson had success on the court and even won a championship in Germany with the Eisbaeren Bremerhaven. Most recently, Johnson played for BC Kalev/Cramo in Estonia where he was one of the Top Players in the Estonian-Latvian Basketball League (BLKL).

He was introduced to basketball at an early age and played on the playgrounds of New York City When he was nine years old, his family moved to Tampa, Florida, where he continued to play basketball In high school Johnson was recruited by many colleges but chose to play for the University of South Florida
After college, Johnson began his coaching career as an Assistant Coach at his alma mater, the University of South Florida. He then moved on to become an assistant coach at the University of Kentucky where he won a National Championship in 1996. In 1997, Johnson became the Head Coach at Vanderbilt University During his tenure as head coach at Vanderbilt, Johnson led the team to four NCAA Tournament appearances.
In 2007, Johnson left Vanderbilt to become the Head Coach of the University of Cincinnati In his first season as Head coach at Cincinnati, Johnson led the team to their first ever NCAA tournament appearance. In 2010, Johnson was named Conference USA Coach of the Year after leading Cincinnati to a share of the Conference USA regular season championship.
Johnson has coached many successful basketball players throughout his career, including All-Americans Joe Harrell and Dan Langhi.
