Located in Springfield, Massachusetts, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame is a museum and Hall of Fame dedicated to the game of basketball Founded in 1959, the Hall of Fame celebrates the sport by inducting individuals who have made significant contributions to the game as players, coaches, or contributors. Each year, a prestigious panel of experts vote on which individuals will be inducted. To be eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame an individual must be nominated by at least 18 members of the committee.
In addition to honoring those who have made outstanding contributions to basketball, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame also hosts several events throughout the year. The most prestigious event is the annual Enshrinement Ceremony, which takes place in October and features a weekend full of events leading up to the formal induction ceremony. Other events include the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament, the Hoophall Classic, and various special exhibitions.
