American Rivers Conference Basketball – Overview

The American Rivers Conference is a NCAA Division I Basketball Conference that began play in the 2016-17 season The conference currently consists of eight member schools, all of which are located in the Midwest region of the United States

The conference operates on a double round-robin format, meaning each team plays every other team in the conference twice during the regular season The regular season runs from mid-November through late February, with each team playing a total of 28 conference games.

At the end of the Regular Season the conference’s top four teams qualify for the conference tournament which is held at a neutral site. The tournament winner receives an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament

So far, no American Rivers Conference team has made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament However, several members of the conference have been competitive in recent years and it is only a matter of time before a team breaks through and earns a spot in March Madness

American Rivers Conference Basketball – History

The American Rivers Conference is a NCAA Division I Athletic Conference It began operation in the 1971-1972 season. The conference currently consists of ten schools, all of which are located in the Midwestern United States

The conference traces its roots back to the Missouri Valley Collegiate Athletic Association which was founded in 1907. The association originally consisted of five schools: Drake University, Grinnell College Iowa State University the University of Nebraska and the University of Kansas

In 1928, three more schools joined the conference: Missouri State University Wichita State University, and Creighton University. In 1942, Nebraska left the conference to join the Big Six Conference (now the Big Ten Conference).

In 1952, Kansas State University joined the conference. In 1956, Omaha University (now known as the University of Nebraska at Omaha) also joined.

In 1964-1965 season saw two significant changes for the conference. First, Grinnell College left to become a non-athletic member of the Midwest Conference Second, Wichita State left to join the Missouri Valley Conference (which it is still a member of today).

The next change to come about was in 1971-1972 when Iowa State left to join what is now known as the Big 12 Conference. This was also when current members Bradley University and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville joined the conference (then known as the Association of Midwestern Universities).

American Rivers Conference Basketball – Format

The American Rivers Conference Basketball Tournament is a single-elimination event held annually to determine the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament The tournament has been held every year since 1988. The conference currently consists of 10 schools, all of which are located in the Midwestern United States

The format of the tournament has varied slightly over its history. For the first three years (1988-90), the field consisted of the top four teams in the Conference Standings with the higher seeds receiving a bye into the semifinals. In 1991, the field was expanded to six teams, with all four first-round games being played at campus sites. From 1992-95, an eight-team format was used, with all first- and second-round games being played at campus sites.

The current format, which has been in place since 1996, features 10 teams and all first- and second-round games being played at a preselected neutral site. The tournament has been held at various sites throughout its history, including Des Moines Iowa; Omaha, Nebraska; Moline, Illinois; and Sioux Falls South Dakota

The American Rivers Conference is a NCAA Division I conference that comprises eleven member institutions. The conference sponsors men’s and women’s basketball, and is headquartered in Iowa City Iowa.

The conference began sponsoring men’s basketball in the 1991-1992 season, with the inaugural season featuring six teams. The conference has expanded and contracted several times since then, with the current eleven-team lineup being set for the 2019-2020 Season

In recent years the American Rivers Conference has been considered one of the most competitive mid-major conferences in the country. In 2019, four teams from the conference earned berths to the NCAA tournament including conference tournament champion Northern Iowa

The 2020 American Rivers Conference Basketball – Coaches will be held from February 27-29 at theTarget Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

American Rivers Conference Basketball – Championships

The American Rivers Conference Basketball Tournament is the postseason Basketball Tournament for the American Rivers Conference. The tournament has been held annually since 2016. It is a single-elimination tournament and seeding is based on Regular Season records. The winner of the tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament

The tournament was created when the conference was founded in 2016. It is currently made up of 10 teams, with 9 of those teams coming from Division I and 1 team coming from Division II. The conference currently has no tie-ins with any other conference, but that could change in the future.

The current format of the tournament is a 10-team, single-elimination tournament. The top six seeds receive a first-round bye, while the bottom four seeds play in the first round. The first round games are played on campus sites, while the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals are all played at a neutral site. The current format has been in place since 2016.

American Rivers Conference Basketball – Future

The American Rivers Conference (ARC) is a NCAA Division III Athletic Conference It currently has nine full members, all located in the Midwest. It was founded in September of 2012, when eight schools left the Iowa collegiate athletic conference (IIAC). These schools were: Buena Vista University, Central College Cornell College, Coe College, Luther College Simpson College Wartburg College, and William Penn University. In July of 2013, the ARC added Nebraska Wesleyan University as a full member.

The ARC does not have an official men’s Basketball Tournament champion. Instead, the eight ARC schools that play men’s basketball each send their regular season conference champion to the NCAA Division III Men’s basketball tournament The same is true for the women’s Basketball Tournament
