The Infield

The success of any Baseball Team in large part, rests on the shoulders of the players in the infield. These are the men who field the difficult ground balls and throws, turn the all-important double plays and contribute most of the team’s home runs Here is a look at the eight men who will make up Austin Peay’s infield in 2019.

The Outfield

The Outfield is where some of the best athletes on the team tend to play. These are the guys that can really run, have a strong arm, and can hit for power. Here is a look at the outfielders for the Austin Peay Governors baseball team

In left field is junior Jaylon UNKNOWN. He is a transfer from UNKNOWN junior college In right field is senior Chris Chinea. He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2015 but opted to come to Austin Peay to get his degree first. Center field is manned by sophomore Brandon Hobson. He was an all-state player in High School and was also drafted by the Cardinals in 2016 but decided to come to college first.

The Pitchers

There are 22 pitchers on the Austin Peay baseball roster including 14 right-handers and 8 left-handers. The staff is made up of 12 freshmen, 5 sophomores, 4 juniors, and 1 senior. RHP Matt Joslin is the only player with previous experience as a starter, while LHP Jacques Pucheu is the only player with previous experience pitching in relief.

RHP Levi Dunlap (3.86 ERA in 2018) and LHP Zach Batchelder (4.50 ERA in 2018) are the only returners who made more than 10 appearances last season. RHP Alec Trela (1.93 ERA in 2018) is the only returner who made more than 5 starts last season. The staff will be relying heavily on newcomers this season.

The Catchers

The Austin Peay Governors baseball team has eight catchers on its roster for the 2020 season. They are Daniel Ayers, Michael Davis, Logan Gray, Garrett George, Nathanael Mathison, Nicholas Wilson, Collin Theroux and Bradley Rolen. All but one of the catchers are right-handed, with lefty George the exception.

The Coaches

The Coaches of the Austin Peay Baseball Team are Head Coach Gary McClure, Pitching Coach Derrick Roark, Hitting Coach Ryan Courtright, and Volunteer Assistant Andrew Georgia.

The Schedule

The Austin Peay State University (APSU) Baseball team represents the university in NCAA Division I college baseball The team participates in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC). They are currently coached by Travis Janssen and play their home games at Raymond C. Hand Park, located on campus in Clarksville, Tennessee.

The regular season schedule for the Governors’ baseball team consists of 56 games, with 27 of those being played at home and 29 on the road. The team typically opens up their season in late February or early March with a series of exhibition games against local colleges and universities, followed by their first regular season game a few weeks later. OVC play usually begins in early April and continues through the middle of May, with the conference tournament taking place at the end of the month. If the team is successful in winning the OVC tournament, they will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament

The Fans

The Facilities

The Austin Peay baseball team plays its home games at Russ Chandler Stadium, located on the campus of Georgia Tech in Atlanta. The stadium, which opened in 1999, has a capacity of 4,157 and is named for former Austin Peay head coach Russ Chandler. The team also practices at the adjacent Russ Chandler baseball facility which includes a weight room, locker room training room and offices for the Coaching Staff
