Results

The Babson College baseball team has released its schedule for the 2019 season. The team will open its season on March 3rd with a game against Holy Cross The team’s first Home game will be against Wentworth Institute of Technology on March 10th.

Team statistics

The Babson Beavers Baseball Team represents Babson College in the NCAA Division III The Beavers are members of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). Babson College has an enrollment of 2,200 undergraduate students. The Beavers play their home games at Governor George Duggan Field, located on campus. The team is coached by Bob Elliot, who is in his 29th season at the helm of the program.

In 2017, the Beavers finished the season with a 22-16 record and reached the NEWMAC tournament for the fourth consecutive year. The team hit .261 as a unit and scored 165 runs while its pitching staff posted a 3.81 earned run average.

1st baseman and team captain senior Jack Kelly said, “I’m really excited for the season. We have a lot of new guys on the team, but they all seem like they’re going to be great additions. I think we’re going to have a really successful season

Pitcher and team captain junior Robbie McCarthy also said he’s looking forward to the season. “I think we have a lot of potential this year. We just need to go out and execute on the field. If we do that, I think we’ll be in good shape.”

Game recaps

The Babson Beavers took on the Brandeis Judges in a four-game series this past weekend, and came away with a sweep. The Beavers started off the series with a bang, winning game one by a score of 9-1. First baseman Alec DeMattia led the way for the offense, going 3-4 with two RBIs. On the mound, starting pitcher Conor Blake cruised through six innings, giving up just one unearned run.

In game two, the Beavers’ offense stayed hot, putting up eight runs en route to an 8-3 victory. Right fielder Zach Bradley had a big day at the plate, going 2-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Starting pitcher Tim Crenshaw was solid on the mound again for Babson, pitching seven innings and giving up just three runs.

The Beavers kept their foot on the gas in game three of the series, winning by a score of 6-2. DeMattia continued his strong weekend at the plate, going 2-3 with two more RBIs. On the mound, reliever Kyle Hodgson picked up the win after pitching three scoreless innings in relief of starter Max Tannenbaum.

Finally, in game four on Sunday afternoon, Babson completed the sweep with an 8-6 victory. Tannenbaum got back on track on the mound, pitching six innings and giving up just two runs. The Beavers’ offense was once again led by DeMattia and Bradley; DeMattia had two hits and two RBIs while Bradley went 2-4 with another home run and three RBIs.

The program has produced some of the game’s greatest players including Hall of Famer Babe Ruth Today, the team is a Division III powerhouse, frequently competing for conference and National Championships

The Beavers are led by head coach Bill Thurston, who has been at the helm since 2006. Under his guidance, the team has won seven conference championships and made five trips to the NCAA Division III World Series

The team’s home field is located on campus at Alumni Field, which underwent a major renovation in 2012. The field is named after former Babson player and Major League star Sam Anderson ’32.
