The Team

Carnegie Mellon University’s baseball team is one of the most exciting and talented teams in the nation. The Tartans have made a name for themselves by competing against some of the best teams in the country and frequently upsetting more highly ranked opponents. head coach Bob Sullivan has built a team that is a force to be reckoned with, both on the diamond and in the classroom.

The Schedule

The Tartans have a packed Conference Schedule in 2020, with several games against tough opponents. They’ll open their season on February 14th against Delaware State, followed by a three-game series against St. Bonaventure. They’ll also face BYU, UT-Arlington, and Texas Tech in the round robin part of the Houston College Classic. After that, it’s back to Pittsburgh for conference play in the Atlantic 10.

The Field

The Carnegie Mellon Baseball Team is one of the most successful Division III programs in the country. The Tartans have won eight conference championships and made nine appearances in the NCAA Division III tournament, including a trip to the College World Series in 2013.

The team is led by Head Coach Dan DiMascio, who has been at the helm for 16 seasons. Under DiMascio, the Tartans have an overall record of 584-218 (.728).

The Tartans play their home games at Gesa Stadium, which is located just off campus on Tech Street. The stadium underwent a major renovation in 2014, and now has a capacity of 1,000 fans.

The Coaches

Head coach Bob Fisher is entering his ninth season leading the Tartans. In his time at Carnegie Mellon, Fisher has led the team to four NCAA Division III tournament appearances, including a Sweet Sixteen appearance in 2009. Under his guidance, the Tartans have also won four University Athletic Association (UAA) championships. Associate head coach Someone Else will also be returning for his ninth season. Else has been an integral part of the team’s success, helping lead the Tartans to four UAA championships and four NCAA Division III tournament appearances.

The Alumni

CMU Baseball has produced some top-tier talent over the years. Amongst our distinguished alumni are:

-pitcher Aroldis Chapman who played for the Cincinnati Reds and is currently a free agent
-catcher Jason Veritek, who played for the Boston Red Sox New York Yankees Toronto Blue Jays and Oakland Athletics
-third baseman Aramis Ramirez, who played for the Pittsburgh Pirates Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers

The Media

The Tartans are led by a trio of talented seniors: catcher Matt Henderson, first baseman Chris Harbert, and pitcher Sam Gardner. Henderson is one of the best defensive catchers in all of Division III while Harbert is one of the top power hitters in the country. Gardner, meanwhile, is one of the most dominant pitchers in all of college baseball He’s already set the program record for strikeouts in a season, and he’s only getting better as the season goes on.
