The 2017-2018 season marks the 75th anniversary of Chicago State University men’s basketball. In honor of this momentous year, let’s take a look at the CSU Cougars who have made the greatest impact on the program throughout its history.

Key Players

Chicago State University’s men’s basketball team has seen a lot of success in recent years and a big part of that is because of the strong play of their Key Players Here is a look at some of the team’s best:

-Senior guard Quinton Pippen is the son of NBA legend Scottie Pippen and has been one of the team’s best players for the past few seasons. He is a versatile player who can score, rebound, and play defense at a high level.

-Junior guard Brian Beard is another versatile player who can do a little bit of everything on the court. He is an excellent shooter and also does a great job of distributing the ball to his teammates.

-Sophomore forward Amere May is one of the team’s best athletes and is a very good rebounder and shot blocker. He is still developing his offensive game, but he has shown flashes of potential.

-Freshman guard Tyrese Haliburton is one of the team’s most promising young players He is an excellent shooter and has tremendous Court Vision He will be counted on to provide a spark for the team off the bench this season.

The Bench

The players coming off the bench for the Chicago State Basketball team are vital to the Cougars’ success. Here’s a look at who they are and what they bring to the court.

Reserve guard David Booth is a key player for the Cougars, providing instant offense when he enters the game. Averaging 9.5 points per game Booth has been a reliable scorer all season long

Also coming off the bench is forward Xavier Johnson, who provides a spark with his energy and hustle. Johnson is averaging 5.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game

Rounding out the bench unit is guard Tylon Love, who provides solid defense and leadership. Love is averaging 2.5 points per game

The Coaches

The current Head Coach of the Chicago State University men’s basketball team is Lance Irvin. He was appointed to the position in May 2019. Coach Irvin is a Chicago native and a former Assistant Coach at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Assistant coaches for the team include Scott Williams, Austin Parkinson, and Najeeb Echols. Scott Williams is in his first season as an assistant coach at Chicago State. Prior to joining the Coaching Staff he served as a head coach at North Park University Austin Parkinson is also in his first season with the team. He comes to Chicago State from Lewis University, where he was an assistant coach for two seasons. Najeeb Echols is in his second year as an assistant coach at Chicago State. He joined the coaching staff after spending one season as an assistant coach at Judson University
