The Coastal Carolina men’s basketball team finished the 2017-2018 season with an overall record of 21-12 and a conference record of 11-7. The team made it to the semifinals of the Sun Belt conference tournament before losing to eventual champion Georgia State
Below is a recap of each game from the season:
Game 1: Coastal Carolina 70, UCF 63
Coastal Carolina got off to a hot start in its opening game against UCF, shooting 50 percent from the field and 60 percent from three-point range The team was led by senior guard Jaylen Shaw, who scored 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting. The Chants held off a late UCF rally to win by seven.
Game 2: Coastal Carolina 77, Hampton 63
In its second game of the season, Coastal Carolina cruised to an easy 77-63 win over Hampton. The Chants were once again led by Shaw, who scored 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting. Senior forward Michel Enanga added 12 points and 11 rebounds in the win.
Game 3: Clemson 82, Coastal Carolina 68
Clemson ended Coastal’s two-game Winning Streak with an 82-68 road victory. The Chants struggle offensively, shooting just 37 percent from the field and 31 percent from three-point range. Clemson was able to take advantage of cold shooting by Shaw (1-for-9) and Enanga (2-for-7), who combined for just seven points. Senior guard Devin Coleman was the only bright spot for Coastal, scoring 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting.

The Coastal Carolina men’s Basketball team will face a variety of opponents this season, ranging from conference foes to non-conference teams. Here is a preview of some of the Chanticleers’ opponents:
UNC Asheville Bulldogs
The Bulldogs are a member of the Big South Conference and finished the 18-19 season with a record of 15-17. UNC Asheville will be led by senior guard LJ Thorpe, who averaged 14.4 points per game last season. The Chanticleers and Bulldogs will meet on December 4th in Wilmington, NC.
Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs
Gardner-Webb is also a member of the Big South Conference and finished last season with an overall record of 23-11. The Runnin’ Bulldogs will be led by senior guard David Efianayi, who averaged 16.5 points per game last season. The Chanticleers and Runnin’ Bulldogs will meet twice this season, with the first matchup taking place on December 21st in Wilmington, NC and the second on February 8th in Boiling Springs NC.
Campbell Fighting Camels
The Fighting Camels compete in the NCAA Division I as members of the Atlantic Sun Conference Campbell finished last season with an overall record of 17-17. The Camels will be led by senior guard Chris Clemons who averaged 27 Points per game last season and was named First Team All-Atlantic Sun Conference. The Chanticleers and Fighting Camels will meet twice this season, with the first matchup taking place on January 2nd in Charleston, SC and the second on February 29th in Buies Creek, NC.
CCU in the news
Coastal Carolina men’s basketball team is set to take on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on December 4th. The game, which will be Coastal’s first ever against a ranked opponent, is set to tips off at 8pm ET and will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
March Madness
As the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers prepare for the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament also known as “March Madness”, fans can view the full schedule below. The Chanticleers are set to take on the University of TCU in the first round on Friday, March 16th. The game will be broadcasted on truTV at 6:27 pm EST.

NBA draft
The NBA draft is an annual event in which the thirty franchises in the National Basketball Association select new players for their rosters. These players are usually selected from college basketball but many are also selected from overseas leagues. The draft consists of two rounds, with each team having one pick in each round. The first round of the draft is typically held in June, while the second round is held in July.
In recent years the Coastal Carolina men’s basketball team has had several players drafted into the NBA. In 2020, guard Devonte’ Graham was selected in the second round by the Charlotte Hornets In 2019, forward PJ Washington was selected in the first round by the Charlotte Hornets In 2018, guard Tyler Dorsey was selected in the second round by the Atlanta Hawks
Off-season
The Off-Season is the time when the Coastal Carolina Men’s basketball team is not playing any official games. This is the time when the team practices and works on skills to improve for the next season. The off-season runs from late April until early November.
