After a few down years following Heeseman’s retirement, CU Boulder baseball rebounded in the 1970s under head coach Chuck Mills. Mills led the team to six conference championships and nine NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the College World Series in 1980.
The team continued to find success under Head Coach Mike Weathers in the 1990s and 2000s. Weathers guided the team to eight conference championships and 12 NCAA tournament appearances, including a trip to the College World Series in 2005.
The team’s most recent period of success began under Head coach Troy Morrell in 2013. Morrell has led the team to five conference championships and six NCAA tournament appearances, including trips to the College World Series in 2016 and 2018. Under Morrell’s leadership, CU Boulder baseball has established itself as one of the premier programs in the country.
The 2017 Season
The 2017 CU Boulder Baseball Team was one of the most successful in recent years The team finished the season with a record of 31-25 and made it to the NCAA tournament This was the first time in program history that the team had made it to the tournament. The team’s success was due in part to the great play of its seniors, who led the way all season. The seniors on this team weresome of the best players in program history, and they will be sorely missed next season.
The 2018 Season
After finishing last in the Pac-12 in 2017, the University of Colorado Boulder’s baseball team is looking to rebound in a big way in 2018. head coach Scott Maeck is entering his fourth season with the Buffs, and he has brought in a talented recruiting class to help bolster the squad. Among those recruits is infielder Jesse Mueller, who was named a perfect game Preseason All-American. Mueller will join a young core of Buffs that includes pitchers Gavin LaValley and Ryan Feltner, who both had solid freshman campaigns in 2017.
