CUSA Women’s Basketball: Season Predictions
The 2020-21 season of Conference USA women’s basketball looks to be one of the most competitive in recent years There are a number of teams that could make a run at the top spot in the standings, but we’ve singled out three as our preseason favorites.
1. Old Dominion Monarchs
The Monarchs come into the season as the defending CUSA champions and will be looking to repeat in 2021. They return four starters from last year’s team, including conference player of the year Victoria Espinoza. Espinoza will be joined by fellow all-conference selection Najeeyah Malik in leading Old Dominion to another successful season
2. Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders
The Blue Raiders are coming off a disappointing 2019-20 campaign, but they have a talented roster that should be able to compete for a conference title this season. Their starting five features three seniors who have plenty of experience playing together and will be looking to finish their careers on a high note.Middle Tennessee will be a tough team to beat in 2020-21.
3. Rice Owls
The Owls are another team that is loaded with experience, as they return four starters from last year’s squad. They also have one of the best players in the conference in Erica Ogwumike, who was named first-team all-conference last season. If Ogwumike can lead Rice to a conference title it would be the first for the school since 2000.
