The Dakota State basketball team is on the Rise: Part 6

In the last installment of our series on the Dakota State Basketball team we take a look at the team’s recent success and what they’ll need to do to maintain it.

Under Head Coach Bob Stitt, the Dakota State Trojans have experienced a renaissance of sorts. After years of struggling to find consistency, the Trojans have put together back-to-back winning seasons and have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the conference.

What has been the key to their success?

For one, Stitt has instilled a culture of discipline and accountability. The Trojans are one of the most well-coached teams in the conference, and it shows on the court. They don’t beat themselves with careless mistakes and they always seem to be in position to make a play.

Secondly, the Trojans have benefited from an influx of talented transfer students. Players like Michaela Rapid, Sarah Gustafson, and Paige Bueckers have made an immediate impact and have helped raise the level of play for the entire team.

Finally, the Trojans have simply gotten better as a whole. They’ve made strides on both ends of the court, and they now have a deep bench that allows them to sustain their level of play for all 40 minutes.

The Trojans are undeniably one of the best teams in the conference right now, but they’ll need to continue to improve if they want to stay on top. They’ll need to find ways to score against tough defenses, and they’ll need to keep getting better on defense themselves. But if they can do that, there’s no reason why they can’t stay on top for years to come.
