DCTC Baseball: A team on the rise
In just a few short years, the DCTC Baseball Team has gone from being a relative unknown to one of the top junior college teams in the country.
Under the guidance of head coach Nate Day, the team has compiled an impressive record of 122-50 over the past four seasons, culminating in a trip to the NJCAA Division III World Series in 2018.
This year’s team is once again poised to make a run at the World Series and with a core group of talented young players DCTC Baseball looks to be a force on the diamond for years to come.
The players that make up the DCTC baseball team
The DCTC baseball team is a young team, with only two seniors on the roster. The Blue Knights are made up of many local players, including four from Rosemount High School The team is led by Head Coach Steve Carepa, who is in his ninth season at the helm of the Blue Knights program. Carepa has coached the team to five NJCAA Division III World Series appearances, including a national runner-up finish in 2016.
The coaches that have led the DCTC baseball team to success
The coaches that have led the DCTC Baseball Team to success are Head coach Bucky Burgau, pitching coach Joe Shuley, and hitting coach Tom Pauly.
Bucky Burgau, who is in his fourth year as head coach of the DCTC Baseball team has guided the Blue Knights to a 131-51 (.719) record, three Minnesota college Athletic Conference (MCAC) State Championships and two National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III World Series appearances (2017 & 2018).
Joe Shuley is in his third season as the Blue Knights’ pitching coach and first as the assistant head coach In his two years at DCTC, Shuley has helped guide the team to a 61-15 (.803) record, two MCAC state championships and one NJCAA Division III World Series appearance (2018).
Tom Pauly is in his first season as the DCTC hitting coach. Pauly played college baseball at St. Cloud State University from 1986-1989 where he set school career records for home runs (42), RBIs (154) and Slugging percentage (.664).

After a string of losing seasons, the team has made great strides in recent years thanks in part to the leadership of head coach Jake Judd. Coach Judd took over the program in 2016 and has since led the team to back-to-back conference championships and a berth in the NJCAA Division III World Series
The team has also seen an influx of talented young players many of whom have gone on to play at four-year colleges and professional baseball
With a strong core of returning players and a talented group of newcomers, the DCTC Baseball Team is poised for another successful season
The highlights of the DCTC baseball team’s success
The DCTC Baseball Team has seen a lot of ups and downs in recent years, but they seem to be on the rise once again.
In 2016, the team had a record of 19-22 overall and 10-10 in conference play They finished the season strong, winning 8 of their last 12 games.
2017 was a bit of a rebuilding year for the team, as they went 12-28 overall and 5-15 in conference play However, they did show signs of improvement as the season went on and they will look to build on that in 2018.
So far in 2018, the team is off to a good start with a record of 15-12 overall and 9-9 in conference play. They have already surpassed their win total from last year and are currently riding a 4 game Winning Streak
The DCTC Baseball team has struggled in recent years, but they seem to be on the rise once again. The team has shown improvement in each of the past two seasons and is off to a good start in 2018. With continued hard work the team should be able to build on their success and become one of the top teams in the conference.

After years of disappointment, the team is finally seeing some success. In 2018, they finished with a record of 24-22, their best record in recent years.
The team is young and improving every year. With a few more recruits, they could be a force to be reckoned with in the years to come.
