The Team’s History
Fairfield University’s men’s basketball team has a long and proud history. The team has won numerous conference championships and made several appearances in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament Fairfield University’s men’s Basketball team is one of the top programs in the East Conference and is a perennial power in conference play The team has produced many NBA players including Current Los Angeles Lakers forward Kyle Kuzma
The Team’s Roster
Fairfield University’s men’s basketball team is composed of a group of talented and skilled student athletes. The roster includes:
-Tyler Nelson (#5): A sophomore guard from Worcester, Massachusetts, Tyler is a key player on the team. He averaged 9.8 points per game last season.
-SKeith Matthews (#11): A junior guard from New York, Keith is one of the team’s best three-point shooters. He averaged 12.5 points per game last season.
-Jose Martin (#13): A senior guard from Puerto Rico Jose is the team’s captain and leader. He averaged 14.1 points per game last season.
-Mario Matasovic (#15): A sophomore forward from Croatia, Mario is a versatile player who can score inside and out. He averaged 8.7 points per game last season.
– Jerry Johnson Jr.#21: A freshman guard from Virginia, Jerry is a talented young player who is expected to make an immediate impact on the team.
The Team’s Schedule
The Stags’ men’s basketball team will play thirty-two games in the 2019-2020 Season The non-conference portion of the schedule includes games against local rivals Yale and Quinnipiac, as well as a game against Florida State which made the Elite Eight last year. The team will also participate in the 2K Empire Classic, hosted by Madison Square Garden Some of the other teams in the tournament include Providence, Washington State and Hofstra.
The Team’s Results
The Fairfield University men’s basketball team has compiled a very successful record over the years. They have won in conference play and have been to the NCAA Tournament several times. The team has also been ranked in the top 25 nationally.
The Team’s Fans
Fairfield University’s men’s basketball team has a large and dedicated following of fans. The team’s fans are known for their vocal support of the team, and their belief in the team’s ability to win. The team’s fans are also known for their sense of fair play, and their respect for the game of basketball
The Team’s Home Court
home court advantage is often cited as a key factor in deciding the outcome of a game, and the Fairfield University men’s Basketball team is no exception. The team plays its home games at Alumni Hall, located on the university’s campus in Fairfield, Connecticut. Alumni Hall has a capacity of 3,500 spectators and is widely considered to be one of the best home court advantage venues in all of collegiate basketball.
In recent years the team has enjoyed great success at home, posting a winning percentage of over 70% since the start of the 2014-2015 season. During this time period, the team has won multiple conference championships and made several appearances in the NCAA tournament Given the team’s success at home, it’s no surprise that Alumni Hall is often referred to as “The Fort” by players and fans alike.
The Team’s Rivals
The Fairfield University’s Men’s Basketball Team has several rivals, the most well-known being the Iona College Gaels and the Manhattan College Jaspers. These two teams are part of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) which Fairfield University is also a part of. The Gaels and the Jaspers have been competitive with each other for many years and their games always bring out large crowds.Other rivals of the team include the Quinnipiac University Bobcats, the Yale University Bulldogs, and the University of Hartford Hawks
The Team’s Head Coach
The current Head Coach of the Fairfield University Men’s Basketball team is Sydney Johnson. He was hired in April of 2010. Coach Johnson has lead the team to two conference championships and two NCAA tournament appearances.
The Team’s Assistant Coaches
The Fairfield University’s Men’s Basketball team has two assistant coaches they are Doug Fanshawe and Tim O’Toole.
