The FIU Basketball Roster is Finally Here

The much-anticipated FIU Basketball Roster is finally here, and it looks like the team is primed for a strong season. The starting lineup includes:

The team will also feature a strong bench, with players like:

A Quick Look at the Roster

This season, the Florida International University men’s basketball team is looking to build on last year’s success. The team made it to the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history last season and is looking to make a deep run this year. Head Coach Butch Davis has put together a talented roster that features a mix of experience and youth. Here is a quick look at the roster for the upcoming season

Guard
-Mike Douglas: A 6’3” guard from Brooklyn, New York, Douglas is a transfer from St. John’s University. He averaged 10.5 points per game last season and will be looked to for scoring and leadership this season.
-Brian Beard Jr.: A 6’2” guard from Miami, Florida, Beard is a returning starter from last season. He averaged 12.6 points per game last season and is one of the most experienced players on the team.
-Caleb Johns: A 6’4” guard from Melbourne, Australia, Johns is a transfer from Indian Hills Community College He averaged 15 points per game last season and will be looked to for scoring and outside shooting.

Forward/Center
-Osun Osunniyi: A 6’10” forward/center from Rochester, New York, Osunniyi is a transfer from Stony Brook University. He averaged 10 points and 8 rebounds per game last season and will be looked to for inside scoring and defense.
-Antwan Scott: A 6’7” forward from Tallahassee, Florida, Scott is a transfer from Chipola College. He averaged 13 points and 7 rebounds per game last season and will be looked to for scoring and rebounding.
-Noseguard Robinson: A 7-foot center from Nassau, Bahamas, Robinson is a transfer from Mesa Community College He averaged 5 points and 5 rebounds per game last season and will be looked to for rebounding and defense

-Center: Freshman Kareem South
-Guards: Sophomores Devon Andrews and Brian Beard Jr.

This group of young men is sure to make some noise this season, so make sure to catch them in action. They’ll be hitting the court running when they take on UCF at home on November 6th.

The Newcomers

The new FIU basketball Roster is finally here, and it’s packed with newcomers.

Head coach Butch Davis has brought in a total of 12 new players, including 11 freshmen and junior college transfer Rasheed Browne.

The Panthers will have a very young team this season, with only three upperclassmen on the roster.

The Coaching Staff

The Coaching Staff is led by head coach Ron Garretson. He is joined by assistant coaches Jeremy Crouch and Dave Klostergaard. The staff also includes Director of basketball operations Michael Gale and Strength and Conditioning Coach Mike Bewley.

The Schedule

The schedule is finally here and we couldn’t be more excited! The first game is on November 5th against the University of Miami and we can’t wait to see how our team does.

The Expectations

The Panther’s men’s Basketball Roster has been released and there are a few surprises. The 14 player squad includes 7 freshmen, 5 sophomores, 1 junior, and 1 senior. We will take a look at each player and what role they will play on the team.

The Guards:

Freshman Anthony Capra will most likely be the starting point guard He is quick, has good handles and can shoot from anywhere on the court. He will need to work on his decision making and playing under control.

Junior college transfer Eric Nunez will back up Capra at point guard He is a very good shooter and a good defender. He is not as quick as Capra, but he is a smart player that understands how to run an offense.

Sophomore Najee Garvin will be the shooting guard He is a very good shooter with unlimited range. He needs to work on his defense and being more aggressive on offense.

Freshman Isaiah Thomas will back up Garvin at shooting guard He is a very athletic player that can shoot and drive to the basket. He needs to work on his outside shot and being more consistent with his jump shot

The Forwards:

Sophomore Sam Cassell Jr. will be the starting small forward He is a very good shooter and defender. He needs to work on his ball handling and creating his own shot.

Freshman Jerome Frink will back up Cassell at small forward He is an athletic player that can rebound and block shots He needs to work on his outside shot and being more consistent with his jump shot

The Predictions

The Basketball season is about to start and with that comes the release of the highly-anticipated FIU Basketball Roster Here are the predictions for who will make the team and how they will fare this season.

The Bottom Line

The FIU men’s Basketball team has been rebuilt from the ground up and the results are finally starting to show. After years of nt play and roster turnover, the Panthers seem to have found a core group of players that can compete at a high level.

The team is led by junior guard Jonemeda Ceasar, who is averaging 17 points per game Other key contributors include senior forward Michael Kessens (15 points, nine rebounds per game) and sophomore guard Eric Nunn (12 points, four assists per game).

With a solid mix of experience and youth, the Panthers are poised to make a run at the Conference USA title. The team will open conference play on January 2 against Charlotte.
