One of the biggest obstacles facing groups trying to bring professional baseball to Alabama is the state’s lack of a suitable stadium. To meet MLB requirements, a stadium must have at least 10,000 seats and be located in an urban area with a population of at least 2 million people Additionally, the stadium must be located within 45 minutes of an international airport. None of the existing stadiums in Alabama meet these criteria, making it necessary to build a new facility from scratch.

Another challenge facing groups trying to bring professional baseball to Alabama is the state’s lack of experience in hosting professional teams. The last time Alabama had a professional baseball team was in 1912, when the Birmingham Barons were founded. The Barons played for less than two seasons before folding due to financial difficulties.
