As the weather gets colder and winter approaches, Harvard students begin to prepare for one of the most exciting times of the year: Basketball season The air buzzes with anticipation as students wait for the release of the season’s schedule. With 20 Ivy League conference games and a few huge non-conference matchups, there are a lot of games to get excited about this season. Here are five of the most highly anticipated games on Harvard’s schedule.

1) Harvard vs. Yale: December 7th
The annual matchup between these two ancient rivals is always one to watch. This year’s game will be especially exciting as both teams are projected to be at the top of the Ivy League standings.

2) Harvard vs. Boston College December 21st
This will be the first ever meeting between these two schools, and it is sure to be a heated battle. With both teams being located in Massachusetts, there is sure to be a lot of fan support for both sides.

3) Harvard vs. Cornell: January 18th
Cornell is always one of Harvard’s toughest opponents, and this game will be no different. Both teams are expected to contend for the Ivy League title, so this matchup could have major implications come March.

4) Harvard vs Princeton February 8th
Princeton is another team that is always near the top of the Ivy League standings, so this game should be a great one. It will also be senior night at Lavietes Pavilion, so emotions will be running high as Harvard’s seniors play their final Home game in front of their home fans.

5) Harvard vs Penn: March 1st
The final game of the regular season always has major implications in terms of the Ivy League standings. Penn has been one of Harvard’s biggest rivals in recent years so this game is sure to be intense.

In part two of our most anticipated games of the season series, we take a look at the non-conference slate for Harvard basketball

One of the most difficult aspects of game planning for any college Basketball team is finding a way to schedule interesting and meaningful non-conference games. With conference play taking up such a large portion of the college basketball season it is imperative that teams use their non-conference games to prepare for league play.

That being said, there are always a few games on every team’s schedule that stand out above the rest. Here are the five most anticipated games on Harvard Basketball’s non-Conference Schedule this season:

5) December 2nd vs. Boston College
One of only two true road games on Harvard’s non-conference slate, this matchup with Boston College will be a good early test for the young Crimson squad. The Eagles are coming off a down year in which they finished just 14-17 overall and 4-14 in ACC play. However, Boston College always seems to give Harvard fits and they will be looking to start the season off on the right foot with a win over their in-state rivals.

4) December 5th vs. Northeastern
After facing off against Boston College on the road, Harvard will return home to take on Northeastern in what should be an exciting game between two of the best teams in the city of Boston. The Huskies are coming off a solid season in which they finished 21-11 overall and 12-6 in conference play good for fourth place in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). Northeastern also boasts one of the best players in all of college basketball in guard Vasa Pusica, who averaged over 19 points per game last season. This will be a good early test for Harvard’s defense as they try to slow down one of the best scorers in the country.

3) December 15th vs. Providence
Just 10 days after facing Northeastern at home, Harvard will welcome another team from Boston to town when they take on Providence at TD Garden. The Friars are coming off a disappointing 14-19 campaign, but they always seem to give Harvard fits and this should be another great game between two local rivals. Playing at TD Garden is always a special experience for college basketball players and this will be a great opportunity for some of Harvard’s younger players to get some experience playing in one of Boston’s most iconic venues.

2) December 21st vs. Wichita State
The Crimson will wrap up their non-conference schedule with a bang when they host Wichita State at Lavietes Pavilion on December 21st. The Shockers are one of the best mid-major programs in the country and they come into this season ranked 18th in the AP Preseason Poll after finishing 25-8 overall and 14-4 in conference play last year, good for second place in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC). Wichita State has made six straight NCAA tournament appearances and they have won at least 20 games in each of those seasons, so this will be a formidable test for Harvard as they look to end their non-conference schedule on a high note.

As the Crimson continues its preparations for the upcoming season we take a look at the team’s most anticipated games of the 2017-2018 campaign.

Afternoon contests against conference foes Yale and Dartmouth will once again highlight Harvard’s schedule, as the Crimson looks to defend its Ivy League title.

In addition to its traditional rivals, Harvard will also face some tough non-conference opponents this season. Here are the four most anticipated games on the Crimson’s schedule:

1. Yale (Jan. 13 at home, Feb. 3 away)
As always, these games against archrival Yale will be crucial in determining who wins the Ivy League title. The Bulldogs have been one of the best teams in the conference in recent years and they will be looking to take down Harvard this season.

2. Dartmouth (Jan. 20 away, Feb. 10 at home)
Like Yale, Dartmouth is one of Harvard’s biggest rivals and these games will be crucial in deciding who wins the Ivy League title. The Big Green are a tough team to beat at home, so the Crimson will need to be at its best if it wants to come out on top in these two match-ups.
