Since its inception in 1876, Hopkins Baseball has been a tradition of excellence. The team has won 27 National Championships including a record 19 Division I titles. They have also produced numerous Major League Baseball players, including Hall of Famer Frank Robinson Hopkins Baseball is truly a storied program with a rich history.

George H. W. Bush was captain of the Hopkins baseball team in 1948, his senior year. Bush would go on to have a successful career in politics, eventually becoming the 41st President of the United States

Cal Ripken Jr. is one of the most iconic baseball players of all time, and he got his start right here at Hopkins. Ripken played for Hopkins from 1978-1981, amassing a batting average of .340 over his career. He would go on to play 21 seasons with the Baltimore Orioles setting the record for most consecutive games played

Mike Flanagan is another Hopkins Baseball alum who had a long and successful career in Major League Baseball Flanagan pitched for Hopkins from 1970-1973, compiling an impressive record of 20-4 over his three years with the team. He would go on to pitch for 18 seasons in MLB, winning over 100 games and earning an All-Star selection in 1979.

Baseball has been a part of Hopkins since the early days of the university, and the team has always been a force to be reckoned with. In fact, Hopkins has one of the most successful baseball programs in the country, with a winning percentage that is among the best in NCAA Division III history. But what makes Hopkins baseball so special?

Part of it has to do with the tradition of excellence that has been passed down from coach to coach. Three of the most successful coaches in Hopkins history are Ernie Tyler, Bob Scott, and Joe Binder. Under their guidance, Hopkins won nine Middle Atlantic Conference Championships and made seven appearances in the NCAA Division III World Series Tyler, Scott, and Binder all have their names enshrined in the Johns Hopkins Athletic Hall of Fame solidifying their place in Hopkins history.

Today, Hopkins baseball is coached by John Lieberman, who has continued the tradition of excellence started by Tyler, Scott, and Binder. Lieberman has led the team to two MAC Championships and four World Series appearances while also being named MAC Coach of the Year four times.

The success of Hopkins baseball can be attributed to many things, but at its core it is a result of the dedication and commitment of its coaches – past and present – to teaching young men not only how to play baseball at a high level but also how to be successful in life.

The $2 million-plus facility upgrade included a new state-of-the-art press box, an improved entry plaza, permanent stadium lighting, and a new public address system. The project was completed in time for the start of the 2014 season.
