Meet the IU Basketball Coaching Staff

Get to know the Indiana University Basketball Coaching Staff These are the men and women who help develop our players and create our game strategy.

Coach Miller

Coach Miller is in his 12th season as head men’s basketball coach at IU. His teams have earned six NCAA tournament appearances, including four Sweet Sixteen berths. Prior to coming to IU, Coach Miller served as Head Coach at the University of Pittsburgh and Ohio State University

Assistant Coaches

The Indiana University men’s basketball team has a long-standing tradition of success. The team is led by head coach Tom Crean, who is assisted by several other coaches.

Graduate Assistants

The Indiana University men’s Basketball Program is fortunate to have three outstanding young men serving as our graduate assistants this season.

All three of them bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our program.

Ryan Pedon just completed his first year as our video coordinator. Ryan was a four-year letterman at Ohio State where he earned a degree in sports management He then spent two years as an Assistant Coach at Capital University, a Division III school in Columbus, Ohio. Ryan is originally from Mentor, Ohio.

Drew Adams comes to us from St. Bonaventure, where he spent two years as an assistant coach Drew played collegiately at George Mason and was a member of the Patriots’ 2006 Final Four team. He then served as an assistant coach at his alma mater for one year before moving on to St. Bonaventure. Drew is a native of Virginia Beach Virginia.

Mike Roberts is in his first year as our director of player development Mike played collegiately at Robert Morris and was a member of the Colonials’ 2010 NCAA Tournament team. He then served as an assistant coach at RMU for two years before coming to Indiana. Mike is from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Video Coordinator

The Indiana University men’s basketball team’s Coaching Staff is made up of some of the best in the business. In charge of coordinating the team’s video strategy is Video Coordinator Will Schreiner.

Will Schreiner comes to Indiana University with a wealth of experience in the Basketball World He has worked as a video coordinator for multiple NCAA Division I programs, including George Mason University the University of North Carolina Wilmington, and East Carolina University. In addition to his work in college basketball Will has also worked as a scout for the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets

Director of Player Personnel

The Indiana University men’s basketball coaching staff is made up of four core members. Head Coach Archie Miller, Associate Head coach Bennie Seltzer, Director of player personnel Dan Dakich, and Strength and Conditioning Coach Mike Roberts.

Director of Player Personnel Dan Dakich is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the IU Basketball Program He also oversees the team’s recruiting efforts, coordinates team travel, and manages the budget.

Dakich began his career as a graduate assistant at Ohio State University from 1985-87. He then served as an assistant coach at Indiana from 1987-1989 and again from 1993-1998. In between his time at Indiana, Dakich was the head coach at Bowling Green State University from 1989-1992 and at West Virginia University from 1998-2000.

Director of Basketball Operations

The director of basketball operations is responsible for the management and administration of all aspects of the Basketball Program This includes coordinating team travel, managing the budget, overseeing equipment and apparel procurement, and supervising the training staff. The director of Basketball Operations also serves as the liaison between the head coach and the athletic department administration.

Strength and Conditioning Coach

Armon Gates is in his eighth season as Indiana’s strength and Conditioning Coach Prior to coming to Indiana, Gates worked in a similar capacity at Florida, Virginia Commonwealth and Georgia State

Gates oversees the strength and Conditioning Program for the Hoosiers’ men’s Basketball team His focus is on helping the players develop the physical strength and stamina they need to compete at the highest level

Gates has a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Florida State University and is a certified strength and conditioning coach through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Athletic Trainer

The Athletic Trainer staff provides support for the Indiana University basketball team by ensuring the players are healthy and physically prepared to compete at the highest level. The staff works closely with the team’s physicians to provide treatment and rehabilitation for injuries, as well as preventive care for all players. The athletic trainer staff also helps coordinate travel logistics for the team, including arrangement of medical services at each away game site.

Team Manager

The IU basketball coaching staff is led by head coach Archie Miller. The team manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the team and helps the coaches with game preparation.

Hoosier Hysteria

Hoosier Hysteria is in full effect as the Indiana University men’s Basketball team prepares to make a run at the NCAA title. But before you get too caught up in the excitement, take a moment to get to know the Coaching Staff that will be leading the Hoosiers to victory.

Head coach Tom Crean has been at the helm of the IU basketball program for 10 seasons, and under his leadership, the Hoosiers have consistently been one of the top teams in the country. With a career record of 423-234, Coach Crean is no stranger to success on the hardwood.

Associate head coach Steve Alford is in his first season with IU, but he’s no stranger to college basketball Alford has over 30 years of experience coaching at all levels, and he’s been a head coach at both Iowa and New Mexico.

Assistant coaches Chuck Martin and Tim Buckley are both in their second season with Indiana. Martin came to IU after a successful run as Head Coach at Marist College, while Buckley joined the Hoosiers after serving as an assistant at Marquette.

Rounding out the coaching staff is director of operations Nate Hutcheson. Hutcheson has been with IU since 2012, and he oversees all aspects of the team’s travel and logistics.
