-Marcus Owens: A forward from Dallas, TX, Owens is a junior and averaged 9 points per game last season.
-Brian Warren: Also a guard from Dallas, TX, Warren is a sophomore who averaged 8 points per game last season.
-Cameron Johnson: A guard from San Antonio TX, Johnson is a freshman who was ranked as a top 100 player in the nation coming out of High School
-Josh Nzeakor: A forward from Lafayette, LA, Nzeakor is a sophomore who averaged 7 points per game last season.
-David Foster: A center from Austin, TX, Foster is a freshman who was also ranked as a top 100 player in the nation coming out of high school

What are their stats?

The Lamar Cardinals men’s basketball team represents Lamar University in NCAA Division I men’s basketball. The Cardinals play in the Southland Conference and are currently coached by Tic Price. They are currently members of the Southland Conference

In 2018–19, the Cardinals finished the season 11–20, 7–11 in Southland play to finish in a tie for eighth place. They defeated Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana to advance to the quarterfinals of the Southland Tournament where they lost to Sam Houston State

The Lamar University men’s Basketball team is made up of 12 student-athletes from six different states. The Cardinals’ roster includes four seniors, two juniors, three sophomores and three freshmen. Below is a breakdown of the team by state and year in school.

How did they get recruited to Lamar?

The Lamar basketball team has a lot of young, talented players. Most of them were highly recruited out of high school and had multiple college offers. Coach Tic Price and his staff did a great job of identifying and recruiting players that fit their system and would be successful at the collegiate level.

Here is a brief look at how each player on the roster was recruited to Lamar:

Player 1 was recruited to Lamar after a standout high school career in which he was named a McDonald’s All-American. He chose Lamar because of the Coaching Staff the opportunity to play right away, and the chance to be part of something special.

##Player 2
Player 2 was recruited to Lamar after a successful high school career in which he led his team to a state championship He chose Lamar because of the family atmosphere and because he felt like he could trust the coaching staff to help him reach his goals.

##Player 3
Player 3 originally committed to another school, but when that Coaching Staff was let go, he decided to open up his recruitment. He ultimately chose Lamar because he felt at home with the coaching staff and the team, and he believed in Coach Price’s vision for the program.

What are their strengths?

When it comes to the game of basketball every player has a role to fill. In order to be a successful team, it is important that each player know their strengths and weaknesses. The following is a list of the Lamar University Basketball team’s strengths.

-Pace: The team is able to push the pace of play and score quickly.
-Shooting: The team has several good shooters that can score from anywhere on the court.
-Size: The team has good size, which gives them an advantage on the boards and in the post.
-Experience: The team is made up of mostly upperclassmen, which gives them an advantage in terms of experience.

What are their weaknesses?

The basketball team at Lamar University is young, with only two seniors on the roster. They will need to rely on their bench players to contribute this season if they want to be successful.

One weakness of the team is their lack of experience. The starting five for Lamar consists of two freshman, two sophomores, and one junior. None of the starters have more than two years of collegiate experience. This could be a problem when they face teams with more experienced players.

point guards
The point guard position is arguably the most important on the floor, as they are responsible for running the offense and keeping everything organized. Lamar has two players who will see time at this position — seniors Anthony Bradford and Nick Garth.

Bradford is a 6-foot-1-inch tall veteran who has started in all but two games over his collegiate career. He averaged 7.4 Points per game last season and is looking to build on that in his final year with the Cardinals. Garth, meanwhile, is a 6-foot-4-inch transfer from San Jacinto College who is expected to make an immediate impact for Lamar. He averaged 16.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game last season and should be one of the Cardinals’ top scorers this year.

Shooting guards
The shooting guard position is typically reserved for players who are good outside shooters and can score in bunches. Lamar has two players who will see time here — junior Josh Nzeakor and freshman Tum Tum Nairn Jr..

Nzeakor, a 6-foot-7-inch forward, was one of the Cardinals’ top performers last season, averaging 11.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game while shooting 52 percent from the field. He will likely see time at both forward positions this season but will spend most of his minutes at shooting guard Nairn Jr., meanwhile, is a 5-foot-10-inch freshman point guard who was ranked as one of the top 100 players in his class coming out of high school He’s expected to back up Bradford and Garth at point guard but could also see some time at shooting guard due to his scoring ability.

Small forwards
The small forward spot is often occupied by players who are versatile and can do a little bit of everything on the court. Lamar has three players who will compete for minutes here — junior Vashaun Wightman, sophomore Zjori Boshae and freshman Davion Buster .

Wightman, a 6-foot-6-inch wing player, saw limited action last season but should see an increased role this year as he looks to contribute more on both ends of the floor. Boshae is a 6-foot-5- inch wing player who played in all 32 games as a freshman last season, averaging 1.8 points per game while shooting 33 percent from 3 -point range . He figures to be one of Lamar’s key reserves this season . Buster , meanwhile , is a 6 – foot – 7 – inch forward who comes to Lamar after playing his high school ball in Dallas . He’s raw but has great potential and should see some minutes as a reserve this season .

Forwards
The forward positions are typically occupied by taller players who can do damage inside the paint . The Cardinals have three players who will see time here — junior Edric Dennis , sophomore Aundre Jackson and freshman Javis Fulcher .

Dennis , a 6 – foot – 5 – inch wing player , saw action in all 32 games last season , averaging 4 . 1 points per game while shooting 41 percent from 3 – point range . He figures to be one of Lamar ’ s key reserves again this season . Jackson , meantime , is a 6 – foot – 8 – inch post player who played in 25 games as a freshman last year , averaging 2 . 8 points per game while providing valuable minutes off the bench . Fulcher , meanwhile , is a 6 – foot 10 – inch post player who comes to Lamar after redshirting his first year at San Jacinto College . He figures to provide valuable minutes off the bench as well .

What are their goals for the season?

The Lamar basketball team consists of 11 players, all of whom have different goals for the season. One player, junior guard Jaylin Airington, hopes to lead the team in scoring. Another player, freshman forward Logic Roberts, wants to make a significant impact on the court despite not being a starter. The team’s goal is to make it to the NCAA tournament

-Sophomore guard Jaden Chen loves nothing more than a fast break His favorite basketball moment is when he steals the ball and takes it all the way for a layup.
-Junior forward Jessica Saunders loves feeling like she’s in control of the game. Her favorite moments are when she’s leading a fast break or draining a three-pointer.
-Freshman guard Tyler Johnson loves getting his teammates involved. His favorite moments are when he makes a killer pass that leads to an easy basket.
-Sophomore center Abbey Thorpe loves rejected shots and blocked shots. Her favorite basketball moment is when she stuffs someone at the rim and sends them flying.

What do they think of the team’s chances this season?
