Introduction

Welcome to the University of Louisville’s Women’s Basketball team! Our roster is filled with talented and dedicated athletes who are eager to compete at the highest level We are proud to have a team that represents our school and our city with such class and distinction.

Our team is comprised of twelve student-athletes, all of whom have worked extremely hard to earn their spot on the squad. We are confident that each one of them will make a valuable contribution to our team’s success this season.

Schedule

The 2018-19 Louisville Women’s Basketball Schedule features games against some of the top teams in the country. The Cardinals will face off against Notre Dame Connecticut, South Carolina and Baylor in non-conference play Louisville will also host the ACC/Big Ten Challenge for the second consecutive year. The Cardinals finished the 2017-18 Season with a 29-7 overall record and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA tournament

The Louisville Cardinals women’s basketball team represents the University of Louisville in the Atlantic Coast Conference of NCAA Division I. The Cardinals play their home games in Louisville, Kentucky at the KFC Yum! Center. The team’s Head Coach is Jeff Walz, who is currently in his twelfth season.

The 2020–21 Louisville Cardinals women’s Basketball team will represent the University of Louisville during the 2020–21 NCAA Division I women’s Basketball season The Cardinals, led by twelfth-year head coach Jeff Walz, play their home games at the KFC Yum! Game Highlights

In their first season under Head Coach Jeff Walz, the Cardinals compiled a 26–8 record and reached the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen Three players scored in double figures, led by Shawnta’ Dyer with 16.5 points per game The team’s leading rebounder was Jazz Covington, who averaged 8.5 rebounds per game [1]

The Cardinals began the season with a 20-point win over Oral Roberts in their first game of the season on November 10, 2007.[2] The Cardinals then won their second game of the season against Chattanooga Mocs on November 13, 2007.[3] Three days later, on November 16, 2007, Louisville played its first road game of the season against Florida International University and won by a score of 74–71.[4][5] The Cardinals then won two more games at home against William & Mary (93–62)[6] and Indiana State (88–51).[7][8]

After beginning the season 6–0, Louisville’s next challenge was a two-game road trip against nationally ranked Ohio State and Virginia Commonwealth. The Cardinals defeated Ohio State by a score of 61–55 on November 25, 2007,[9][10] giving Walz his first win over a ranked opponent as Louisville Head coach In their next game three days later against Virginia Commonwealth, Louisville trailed by one point with less than ten seconds left in regulation time. But UofL guard Candyce Bingham hit a last second three-pointer to give her team a 60–57 victory.[11][12]

Louisville then returned home to Freedom Hall where they defeated Butler (73–59),[13][14] Charlotte (76–48),[15][16] Southern Miss (97-68),[17][18], Tennessee Tech (84-42),[19], Cincinnati (66-64),[20],Seton Hall (60-44),[21], Marquette (59-44),[22], Pittsburgh (59-41),[23], DePaul 71-51,[24],[25], Rutgers 63-60 in OT,[26],[27], Connecticut 71-46,[28],[29], Syracuse 55-54,[30],[31], West Virginia 71 – 47,[32],[33], and Georgetown 64 – 48.[34],[35]

Post-Game Analysis

The Louisville Cardinals women’s basketball team represents the University of Louisville in the Atlantic Coast Conference of NCAA Division I. The Cardinals compete in the Kentucky–Louisiana rivalry against the Kentucky Wildcats and have won two National Championships in 1980 and 1986. The team is currently coached by Jeff Walz.

Redshirt junior Cortnee Walton is originally from San Antonio Texas. She transferred to Louisville from South Plains junior college in December of 2015 and sat out the 2016-2017 season due to NCAA transfer rules. She’s been a key contributor for the Cardinals since joining the team, averaging 6.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game in her two seasons with Louisville.

Senior Sam Fuehring is one of two captains on this year’s team. The 6’2″ forward from New Jersey is in her fourth season with the Cardinals, and she’s seen her role increase each year. As a senior, she’s averaging career highs in points (11.5), rebounds (6.0), and minutes played (28.5).

Jazmine Jones is a junior guard from Bardstown, Kentucky, and one of the best three-point shooters on the team. In her three seasons with Louisville, she’s shot 37 percent from beyond the arc, including a career-best 39 percent last season as a sophomore. She’s also an excellent free throw shooter, converting on 77 percent of her attempts from the stripe over her career.
