History

The McNeese basketball team has a long and storied history. The team has been to the NCAA tournament several times and have produced many Great players Here is a brief history of the team.

The McNeese Basketball team was founded in 1934. The team’s first coach was Jay McCreary. The team’s first game was against Louisiana State University The McNeese team lost that game, but went on to have a very successful first season.

In 1935, the McNeese basketball team made it to the NCAA Tournament for the first time. They lost in the first round to TCU, but this was just the beginning of their success in the tournament.

In recent years the McNeese Basketball team has been to the NCAA tournament several times. They have also won conference championships and produced many great players

Roster

The McNeese basketball team is composed of twelve athletes who have competed at the collegiate or professional level. The team is led by Head Coach Rodney Jackson, who is entering his sixth season with the Cowboys.

Offensively, the team is anchored by Senior GuardKevin Hardy, who averaged 15.5 points per game last season. Hardy is joined in the backcourt by Junior GuardIsiah Osborne, who averaged 10.4 points per game last season. Sophomore ForwardMatthew Langlois and Freshman ForwardJarvis Mitchell provide an inside presence, while Senior Markelle Fultz and Junior CenterRiley Norris provide outside shooting.

On the defensive end, the team is led by Senior GuardRoderick York, who averaged 2.3 steals per game last season. York is joined in the backcourt by Hardy and Osborne, while Mitchell, Langlois, and Norris anchor the frontcourt.

The McNeese basketball team looks to build on last season’s success and make a run at the conference championship this year. With a mix of experience and youth, the Cowboys hope to surprise some teams and make some noise in the conference tournament

Schedule

The McNeese men’s basketball team will open its 2019-20 season on Tuesday, November 5th at home against Southeastern Louisiana The Cowboys will then hit the road for three straight games, beginning with a trip to Baton Rouge to take on LSU on Friday, November 8th. The team will also travel to take on Texas Tech (Nov. 12) and South Alabama (Nov. 17) before returning home to host UTSA on Wednesday, November 20th.

Game Results

The McNeese Cowboys basketball team is currently in the midst of its 2017-2018 season. The team has faced a number of different opponents so far this season, and has a current record of 12-9. In conference play the Cowboys have gone 8-6, good for fifth place in the Southland Conference

The Cowboys have several Key Players this season, including senior forward Jamaya Burr, who leads the team in scoring and rebounding. Other major contributors include junior guard Sha’kirah Ivey, who is second on the team in scoring, and senior guard Aja Johnson-Taylor, who leads the team in assists.

The Cowboys have a tough road ahead as they look to improve their conference standing and make a push for the postseason. Be sure to follow their progress throughout the rest of the season!

The McNeese Cowboys Basketball team represents McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana, United States The school’s team currently competes in the Southland Conference They are currently led by head coach Dave Simmons and play their home games at Burton Coliseum.

As of the 2019–20 season, the Cowboys have an all-time record of 1298–1071 in 91 seasons of play.

In 1961, 1962 and 1963 McNeese was a charter member of the Gulf States Conference. When that conference dissolved after the 1965–66 season, McNeese joined the Southland Athletic Conference (later known as the Southland Conference).

Media

The McNeese Basketball Team is made up of 13 student-athletes from six different states. There are nine returners from last year’s squad and four newcomers.

The Cowgirls are led by senior center Ragin’ Cajun Precious Achiuwa who averaged 14.6 points and 10.5 rebounds per game last season. She is joined in the front court by fellow senior Nakyla Joseph who averaged 5.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game last year.

In the back court, the Cowgirls will be led by junior guard Chloe Lamb who averaged 12.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game last season. She is joined by sophomore guard dishing out 3.2 assists per game last year while also adding 7.6 points per contest.
