2019-20 Memphis Tiger Basketball Recruiting Targets
The Memphis Tigers Basketball Recruiting class is still very much in flux heading into the final months of the recruiting cycle. Here is a look at some of the top prospects that the Coaching Staff is targeting for the 2019-20 season
Jaren Jackson Jr. – The five-star Power Forward from Michigan is one of the most sought-after prospects in the country. He has already taken an official visit to Memphis and is also considering Duke, Michigan State and Oklahoma State
Drew Timme – The four-star center from Texas is another player that has been on Memphis’ radar for quite some time. He has taken an unofficial visit to campus and is also considering Baylor, Gonzaga, and LSU.
Isaiah Stokes – The four-star power forward from Florida took an official visit to Memphis back in September and is also considering Florida State Georgia, and LSU.
Jarred Vanderbilt – The five-star small forward from Texas is another top target for the Tigers. He has already taken an official visit to Memphis and is also considering Kentucky, North Carolina and UCLA.
5-Star Prospects
The Memphis Tigers basketball team has extended offers to several talented High School prospects in the class of 2020. Here is a look at the five-star recruits that the Tigers are targeting.
###Ryhs Carr
Carr is a 6’8″ power forward from Chicago, Illinois. He is rated as the No. 11 overall player in the class of 2020 by 247Sports. Carr has strong rebounding and shot-blocking abilities, and he would be a great addition to Memphis’s frontcourt rotation.
###Drew Timme
Timme is a 6’10” center from Katy, Texas. He is rated as the No. 15 overall player in the class of 2020 by 247Sports. Timme is an excellent scorer and rebounder, and he would give the Tigers another big body in the paint.
###Jaykwon Walton
Walton is a 6’6″ small forward from Birmingham, Alabama. He is rated as the No. 22 overall player in the class of 2020 by 247Sports. Walton is a versatile player who can score, rebound, and defend, and he would be a valuable asset for Memphis on both ends of the court.
4-Star Prospects
Memphis is off to a strong start in the 2020 recruiting cycle. The Tigers currently have four verbal commitments, including two from the ESPN 100.
The highest-ranked commit is No. 66 Trayce Jackson-Davis a 6-9 power forward from Center Grove high school in Greenwood, Indiana. Jackson-Davis is a versatile player who can score inside and out, and he’s ranked as the No. 11 power forward in the country.
The other ESPN 100 commit is No. 87 Boogie Ellis, a 6-2 point guard from San Diego Ellis is an electric scorer with deep range on his jump shot and he’s ranked as the No. 8 point guard in the 2020 class.
The two other commits are four-star shooting guard Damion Baugh and three-star power forward D.J. Jeffries. Baugh is a 6-5 wing from Memphis East who is ranked as the No. 89 player in the 2020 class, while Jeffries is a 6-7 forward from Olive Branch who is ranked as the No. 133 player in his class.
3-Star Prospects
There are a few 3-star prospects that the Memphis Tigers Basketball team is recruiting. Some of these prospects include:
-Jaykwon Walton: a 6-foot-6 small forward from Huntsville, Alabama.
-Tyler Harris: a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Nashville, Tennessee.
-Jamir Moultrie: a 6-foot-7 power forward from Memphis, Tennessee.
JUCO Prospects
There are several JUCO prospects that the Memphis Tiger coaching staff has their eye on for next season. Here is a look at some of the Top Players
Isaiah Maurice: A 6’10” forward from Canada, Maurice is rated as a four-star prospect by ESPN. He averaged 16 points and eight rebounds per game last season while shooting nearly 50 percent from the field. He would be a welcome addition to a Memphis team that lacked frontcourt scoring last season.
David Whitmore: A 6’1″ guard from Arizona, Whitmore is considered one of the Top Juco prospects in the country. He averaged 18 points, five rebounds, and five assists per game last season while shooting 43 percent from three-point range He would be an instant impact player for the Tigers and could potentially start at point guard next season.
Roberto Gallinat: A 6’3″ guard from California, Gallinat is another four-star prospect according to ESPN. He averaged 19 points, five rebounds, and three assists per game last season while shooting 47 percent from the field. Gallinat would provide much-needed scoring punch for the Tigers off the bench.
International Prospects
In recent years the Memphis Tigers have made a concerted effort to recruit top National Basketball prospects. This has paid off in the form of players like Precious Achiuwa and Alex Lomax, who have helped the team to a string of successful seasons.
Here is a look at some of the top international prospects that the Tigers are currently targeting:
Moussa Cisse – A 6’11” center from Mali, Cisse is ranked as the #4 overall prospect in the 2021 class by ESPN. He has a 7’4″ wingspan and is an elite shot-blocker, averaging 3.5 blocks per game in 2019-20. Cisse is also a very good rebounder, averaging 10.8 boards per contest. He has expressed interest in playing for Memphis, and the Tigers are seen as one of his leading contenders.
Kai Sotto – A 7’2″ center from the Philippines, Sotto is ranked as the #9 overall prospect in the 2020 class by ESPN. He has excellent footwork and touch around the basket, and is a very good rebounder and shot-blocker. He needs to add strength, but has all the tools to be a star at the college level. Memphis is one of several schools that have expressed interest in Sotto, and he is expected to take an official visit to campus soon.
Makur Maker – A 6’11” power forward from Australia, Maker is considered one of the top prospects in the 2020 class. He’s a physical specimen with a 7’3″ wingspan and an NBA-ready body. Maker is a very good rebounder and shot-blocker, averaging 2.7 blocks per game in 2019-20. He’s also an excellent finisher around the basket, shooting 63% from two-point range last season. Memphis has been recruiting Maker for several years, and he took an official visit to campus last fall.
Unsigned Prospects
The Memphis Tigers currently have one player committed in their 2020 recruiting class but there are several other prospects that they are still targeting. Here is a look at the top prospects that remain unsigned:
Jaden Harris
Rated as a 4-star point guard by 247Sports, Harris is the No. 2 point guard in the 2020 class and the No. 26 overall player. He has taken official visits to Memphis, Oklahoma State and UCLA, and is also considering Baylor and Iowa State Harris is scheduled to announce his decision on October 19th.
Drew Timme
A 6-foot-10 center from Dallas, Timme is rated as a 4-star prospect by 247Sports and is the No. 8 center in the 2020 class. He has taken official visits to Gonzaga, LSU, Memphis, Oklahoma State and Stanford, and is also considering Duke and Villanova. Timme has not yet set a date for his decision.
Jahmai Mashack
A 3-star Small Forward from California, Mashack is ranked as the No. 184 player in the 2020 class by 247Sports. He has taken official visits to BYU, Cal, Memphis, Oregon State USC, and Utah, with his decision expected sometime in November.
2019-20 Recruiting Class
As the 2019-20 recruiting cycle winds down, it’s time to take a look at the Memphis Tigers’ top prospects
Head coach Penny Hardaway and his staff have put together one of the nation’s top recruiting classes headlined by five-star forward Precious Achiuwa.
Joining Achiuwa in the class are four-star wings DJ Jeffries and Lester Quinones four-star guard Boogie Ellis, and three-star center Malcolm Dandridge.
The class is currently ranked No. 2 in the nation by 247Sports Composite and is expected to move up even higher when all of the final rankings are released.
2020-21 recruiting class
The 2020-21 recruiting class for the Memphis Tigers men’s basketball team is currently shaping up to be one of the best in recent memory.
Head coach Penny Hardaway and his staff have already secured commitments from five-star prospects Moussa Cisse and D.J. Jeffries, as well as four-star prospects boogie Ellis, Landers Nolley II, and Lester Quinones.
With these six prospects already in the fold, the Tigers have put together a recruiting class that is currently ranked No. 3 in the nation by 247Sports Composite Team Rankings.
While there is still some time left before the beginning of the 2020-21 college basketball season it is safe to say that Memphis is in a good position to contend for a National Championship thanks to the talent that will be on its roster.
