Mira Costa’s basketball team is on the rise. After a disappointing season last year, the team is determined to prove themselves this year. With a strong group of returning players and some new additions, they are poised to make a run at the playoffs.

Team History

The Mira Costa High School Basketball team is a relatively new team, having only been established in 2011. However, in the short time that the team has been around, they have quickly made a name for themselves, becoming one of the top teams in California.

The team is made up of students from all over the world, with players from countries such as Serbia, Canada, and the United States The team’s diversity is one of its strengths, as it allows them to play a unique brand of basketball that blends various styles.

Mira Costa’s success has not gone unnoticed, and they have attracted attention from some of the biggest names in college basketball In 2016, Mira Costa was ranked as the #1 high school basketball team in California by MaxPreps. This ranking came after a impressive season in which they went undefeated in league play and won the Cif Southern Section Division I Championship.

The team has also produced some extremely talented players who have gone on to have successful careers at the collegiate level. Some of the most notable players include KJ Feagin (Stanford University), Miles Bridges (Michigan State University), and Jaylen Hands (UCLA).

The 2017-2018 Season

Mira Costa Basketball had a banner year in 2017-2018. The team went undefeated in league play and won the CIF championship. Mira Costa’s success was due in large part to the play of its star player Ryan McMahon. McMahon was named the league MVP and led the team in scoring. The future is bright for Mira Costa Basketball. With McMahon and several other Key Players returning next season, the team is poised to make another run at the CIF title.

The 2018-2019 Season

In the 2018-2019 season, the Mira Costa high school boys’ Varsity Basketball team had a historic run. The team won their league, Cif Southern Section, and State Championships finishing with a record of 33-1. This was the first time in school history that a Mira Costa boys’ Basketball team had won all three titles.

The 2019-2020 Season

The 2019-2020 Mira Costa basketball team is one of the most promising young teams in Southern California With a mix of experienced upperclassmen and dynamic underclassmen, the team is poised to make a run at the CIF title.

The team is led by senior captain Jake Birch, who has been a starter since his sophomore year. Birch is a versatile player who can score inside and out, and he is also a tenacious defender. He will be joined in the starting lineup by fellow seniors Matt Johnson and Alex Hwang. Johnson is a sharpshooter who provides an outside shooting threat, while Hwang is a physical post presence who can rebound and block shots

The backcourt will be manned by junior point guard Mikey Porter and sophomore shooting guard Cole Abrams. Porter is an outstanding playmaker who has improved his jumper over the offseason, while Abrams is a pure shooter with deep range. Sophomore small forward Finnley Arthur rounds out the starting lineup Arthur is an athletic wing player who can score in transition and defend multiple positions.

The bench features several key contributors, including junior big man Liam Doyle, sophomore wing Sam Lee, and freshman point guard Ryan James. Doyle provides depth in the frontcourt, while Lee gives the team another scoring option off the bench. James gives the team another ball-handler and playmaker, and he will be vital in spelling Porter when needed.

With a deep and talented roster, Mira Costa looks poised to make a run at the CIF title this season.

The 2020-2021 Season

The Mira Costa boys’ basketball team is off to a great start this season. They are currently undefeated in league play and are ranked second in the CIF Southern Section Head Coach Mike designed a tough non-League Schedule to prepare his team for the rigors of league play. The team has responded well to his challenge and is playing some of their best basketball of the season.

The Mustangs are led by senior guard, Ryan. He is averaging 19 points per game and is the Heart and Soul of the team. Ryan is a great leader on and off the court and has been instrumental in Mira Costa’s success this season.

The Mustangs have a strong supporting cast that includes junior guard, Josh, who is averaging 11 points per game and senior forward, Matt, who is averaging 10 points and eight rebounds per game Mira Costa also has a talented group of young players who are getting better each game.

The Mustangs have their sights set on winning a CIF championship this season. With their combination of talent, experience, and depth, they have everything they need to make a run at the title.

The Future

The future of the Mira Costa basketball team is looking very bright. With a strong core of young players the team is poised to make noise in the playoffs for years to come.

The team’s success starts with its coach, who has instilled a winning culture and put his players in a position to succeed. The talent on the roster is also undeniable, with several players expected to make an impact at the college level.

When it comes to Mira Costa basketball, the numbers don’t lie.

The Mustangs are coming off their best season in years, having won 23 games and finished second in the Bay League behind only powerhouses Redondo Union and Palos Verdes

And Mira Costa did it with a young team that will only get better in the coming years.

Of the Mustangs’ 23 victories, 15 came against teams that made the playoffs last season.

Mira Costa also showed its mettle by winning close games, going 7-3 in contests decided by five points or less.
