Missouri State Hockey A Brief History
Missouri State Hockey is a Division I Ice Hockey program that competes in the National Collegiate Hockey conference (NCHC). The program is relatively young, having only begun competing at the Division I level in 2006. Prior to that, the program competed at the Division III level and was one of the most successful programs in that division.
Since moving up to Division I, Missouri State has struggled to find success. The team has yet to make an appearance in the NCAA tournament and has only had one winning season at the Division I level. However, the team has shown signs of improvement in recent years and looks poised to make a breakthrough in the near future.

The defensemen are responsible for stopping the other team from scoring and helping out the forwards. They are strong and physical, making them a force to be reckoned with. The goaltenders are responsible for stopping the puck from going into their net. They are quick and agile, making them a vital part of the team.

Missouri State Hockey is a Division I collegiate Hockey Program that competes in the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA). The team is headquartered in Springfield, Missouri, and plays its home games at the Ice Bears Arena. The team is currently coached by former NHL player Jesse Wallin.
The team has seen success in recent years, winning the MCHA regular season championship in 2013 and 2015. In addition, the team has qualified for the NCAA Division I Men’s Ice hockey Tournament in three of the last four seasons.
Missouri State Hockey The League
Since it’s first season in the 2014-2015 academic year, Missouri State Hockey has been a team on the rise in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). The ACHA is a national governing body of non-varsity collegiate ice hockey clubs. They are responsible for promoting excellence in collegiate hockey by providing structure, regulating rules, and creating opportunities for national competition.
The ACHA currently has six divisions: Division 1, Division 2, Division 3, Women’s Division 1, Women’s Division 2 and Women’s Division 3. Missouri State is a part of Division 2. The ACHA schedule typically runs from late September to early April. Each team is allowed 30 regular season games plus two exhibition games.
In order to be eligible to play in the ACHA, players must meet academic eligibility requirements set forth by their respective institution and the ACHA. Missouri State players must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA or higher and full-time student status to be eligible for competition.

In just a few short years, the program has made great strides, both on and off the ice.
From appearing in back-to-back National Championship games to setting records for fundraising and attendance, Missouri State hockey is quickly making a name for itself.
And it all started with a bold vision and a lot of hard work
In 2012, then-Head coach Mike Howell took over a program that was in disarray. The team was coming off a last-place finish in its conference and had won just eight games the previous season.
Howell set out to turn things around quickly, and he did just that. In his first season, the team improved to 18 wins and made it to the conference semifinals. The following year, Missouri State won 25 games and made it all the way to the National Championship game, where they narrowly lost to eventual champion Northeastern.
Since then, Missouri State has continued to build on its success, winning 30 games in each of the last two seasons and appearing in another National Championship game in 2018. The program has also set fundraising records and averaged more than 2,000 fans per game last season, shattering its previous record by more than 1,000 fans.
With its rich history, passionate fan base and strong tradition of success, Missouri State hockey is poised for even more growth in the years to come. Thanks to the vision and dedication of those who came before us, we are building a legacy that will last long after we hang up our skates.
