There are many great basketball players of all time. But who would make it onto the Mount Rushmore of the NBA? We take a look at the four greatest players in NBA history
The History of Mount Rushmore
In the early 1920s, historian Doane Robinson came up with the idea of carving historical figures into the Black Hills region of South Dakota His original idea was to have each face be of a well-known Native American leader. After much back-and-forth, the final four faces of Mount Rushmore were chosen: George Washington Thomas Jefferson Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. Carving began in 1927 and was completed in 1941.
Since its completion, Mount Rushmore has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the United States Thousands of people flock to see the faces of these four Great American Presidents every year.
Now, almost 80 years after its completion, there is new talk of adding a fifth face to Mount Rushmore. This time, however, the face would be of an NBA player But who should it be?
The Significance of Mount Rushmore
In the National Basketball Association (NBA), there is a Mount Rushmore of the greatest players of all time. This honor is reserved for those players who have had the biggest impact on the game and who are considered legends in their own right.
The existence of a Mount Rushmore in the NBA was first introduced by ESPN analyst Jalen Rose during an episode of Grantland’s “Bill Simmons Podcast” in 2012. The idea quickly caught on, and soon enough, various media outlets and fans were debating who deserved to be included on this prestigious list.
While there is no official Mount Rushmore of the NBA, there are a few players who are universally accepted as being among the greatest to ever play the game These players include Michael Jordan Lebron James Kobe Bryant and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

MJ is widely considered to be the greatest player in NBA history and it’s hard to argue with that claim. He was a prolific scorer, an incredible defender, and a true winner, leading his team to six NBA championships during his illustrious career. Whenever the game was on the line, MJ always seemed to come through, earning him the nickname “Mr. Clutch.” There’s simply no denying MJ’s place as one of the NBA’s all-time greats.
2. Kobe Bryant
Kobe was one of the most gifted scorers the game has ever seen, and he was able to put up points in a variety of ways. He was a master of both putting up points in isolation and working within a team offense, and he was also an excellent rebounder and defender. Kobe was able to win five NBA Championships during his career, cementing his legacy as one of the league’s all-time greats.
