The regular season will begin on October 17, 2017, while the 2018 NBA All-Star game will be played on February 18, 2018. The playoffs will begin sometime after April 11, 2018, and will conclude with the NBA Finals sometime in June 2018.

--Damian Lillard Lillard had a great season for the Portland Trail Blazers averaging 26.9 points, 6.6 assists, and 4.5 rebounds per game.

After making it to the NBA Finals for three straight years, many expected them to be one of the best teams in the league again this year. However, they have struggled all season and currently have a record of 30-22, which is good for 4th place in the Eastern Conference
2. The Oklahoma City Thunder
The Thunder are another team that has been a huge disappointment this season. They came into the year with high expectations after acquired Paul George and Carmelo Anthony in the offseason. However, they have not lived up to those expectations and currently have a record of 27-25, which is good for 7th place in the Western Conference
3. The Minnesota Timberwolves
The Timberwolves entered this season with high hopes of making the playoffs for the first time since 2004. They made some big changes in their roster by acquiring Jimmy Butler and Jeff Teague in Free agency and adding rookie center Karl-Anthony Towns However, they have struggled mightily on defense and currently have a record of 25-25, which is good for 8th place in the Western Conference
4. The Indiana Pacers
The Pacers came into this season with aspirations of being one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference after acquiring Paul George in a trade with Oklahoma City Thunder during last year’s offseason. However, they have struggled mightily on both ends of floor and currently sit at 23-29, which is good for 11th place in conference.
5. The Los Angeles Lakers
After signing Lonzo Ball and trading for Brandon Ingram in last year’s draft, many expected the Lakers to take a big step forward this season as young core continued to develop under Head Coach Luke Walton . Unfortunately, that has not been case as Ball has struggled with injuries and Ingram has regressed significantly from last year . As result , Lakers find themselves at 20 – 32 , 13th place out West heading into All – Star break .

1. Jimmy Butler – Jimmy Butler was expected to be a good player but he exceeded all expectations, becoming one of the best players in the league. He led the Minnesota Timberwolves to their first playoff appearance in 14 years.
2. Victor Oladipo – Oladipo was traded to the Indiana Pacers in the offseason, and many thought he would be a good player for them. However, he became a superstar, leading the Pacers to a 48-34 record and a playoff berth.
3. Donovan Mitchell – Mitchell was drafted 13th overall by the Utah Jazz and many thought he would be a good player for them. However, he became a superstar, leading the Jazz to a 48-34 record and a playoff berth.

Last season, Oladipo was not even in the running for this award; he was seen as a disappointment after being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder following four seasons with the Orlando Magic But he worked hard to turn his career around, and it paid off in a big way.
Oladipo is just one of many players who have made big improvements this season. Others include Julius Randle of the Los Angeles Lakers Clint Capela of the Houston Rockets and Spencer Dinwiddie of the Brooklyn Nets
