The Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors are a professional basketball team based in San Francisco California. The Warriors compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Pacific Division The Warriors play their home games at the Chase Center.

The Warriors were founded in 1946 as the Philadelphia Warriors a charter member of the Basketball Association of America (BAA). They were owned by Peter A. Tyrrell, who also owned the Philadelphia Rockets of the American Hockey League Tyrrell hired Eddie Gottlieb, a Time Basketball promoter in the Philadelphia area, as coach and General Manager The owners named the team after an early professional team in the city that played on one of Tyrrell’s old playground courts.

The Warriors won the 1947 BAA Championship, which was their first championship in franchise history and made them only the second team to win a BAA championship (after the Washington Capitols). Gottlieb bought Tyrrell’s interest in the team prior to the 1948–49 season; after losing several Key Players from their inaugural season due to financial difficulties, he gutted much of their roster and replaced it with several players from his former team, the New York Renaissance (Harlem Globetrotters). Former NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo is the Bucks’ star player and Head coach Mike Budenholzer is in his second season with the team.
