We’re ranking the NBA’s top point guards based on a number of factors including shooting, playmaking, and defense.
Kyrie Irving
Kyrie Irving is an American professional basketball player for the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was named NBA Rookie of the Year after being selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the first overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft Irving played college basketball for Duke University before joining the Cavaliers in 2011.
In 2017, Irving was traded to the Celtics, where he has since reached two consecutive NBA Finals winning one in 2018. He has also been selected as an All-Star five times and won two gold medals with Team USA at international tournaments: the 2014 Fiba Basketball World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics
Stephen Curry
Stephen Curry point guard for the Golden State Warriors is widely considered one of the best players in the NBA. Curry is a three-Ime Nba champion and two-time NBA MVP He is a six-time NBA All-Star and has been named to the All-NBA First Team five times. He is also the Warriors’ all-time leader in points, assists, and steals.
Russell Westbrook
Russell Westbrook point guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder is often considered one of the best point guards in the NBA. He is a nine-time NBA All-Star and was the league’s Most Valuable Player in 2017. He is also a two-time Olympic gold medalist.
Chris Paul
Chris Paul is one of the best point guards in the NBA, and he has been for many years. Paul is a nine-time All-Star, and he was named to the All-NBA First Team four times. He is also a two-time Olympic gold medalist, and he helped lead the United States to a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Damian Lillard
In today’s NBA, the point guard position is more important than ever before. A great point guard can single-handedly take over a game and lead his team to victory. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the NBA’s top point guards and see who comes out on top.
Topping our list is Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers Lillard is one of the most explosive scorers in the league and has proved time and time again that he can take over a game when needed. He’s also an excellent defender, which makes him a well-rounded player.
Next up is Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder Westbrook is one of the most athletic players in the league and uses his speed and strength to power his way to the basket. He’s also a great rebounder for his position, which makes him a tough player to stop.
Rounding out our top three is Kyrie Irving of the Boston Celtics Irving is one of the best pure shooters in the league and can score from anywhere on the court. He’s also an excellent ball-handler and playmaker, which makes him a threat to score or set up his teammates whenever he’s on the court.

Kyle Lowry
Kyle Lowry is a Canadian professional basketball player for the Toronto Raptors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is a five-time NBA All-Star and won an Olympic gold medal while representing Canada in 2016. Lowry played college basketball for Villanova University before being selected by the Memphis Grizzlies with the 24th overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft
Kemba Walker
Kemba Walker is an American Professional Basketball player for the Charlotte Hornets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was selected by the Hornets with the ninth overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft Walker played College Basketball for the Connecticut Huskies and was named NCAA Basketball Tournament Most Outstanding Player after leading them to victory in the 2011 edition of the tournament.
In Kemba’s third season, he helped lead the Charlotte Bobcats to their first playoff berth in franchise history. The following season, he also set franchise records for most three-point field goals made in a game and most points scored in a season. Walker has been named an NBA All-Star three times, and he has also represented the United States national team
John Wall
John Wall is an American professional basketball player for the Washington Wizards of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is a four-time NBA All-Star and two-time All-NBA team member. Wall was selected with the first overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft by the Wizards. He played College Basketball for one year at Kentucky before being drafted.
In his second season, Wall led the league in assists per game and was named as a starter for the 2012 NBA All-Star game In 2013, he was voted as a starter again for the All-Star Game and won the Slam Dunk Contest that year. He has also represented the United States men’s national basketball team twice, winning a gold medal in 2014.
Mike Conley
Mike Conley is an American professional basketball player for the Memphis Grizzlies of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for Ohio State University where he was named a consensus second-team All-American as a junior. He was drafted 4th overall by the Grizzlies in the 2007 NBA draft
Conley is a three-time NBA All-Star and has been named to the All-NBA Third Team twice. He also helped lead the USA men’s National Team to a gold medal at the 2010 FIBA World Championship
Trae Young
Trae Young has been one of the most electric players in the NBA this season The rookie point guard out of Oklahoma has dazzled with his scoring and playmaking abilities, and he has been a big reason why the Atlanta Hawks have been one of the most pleasant surprises in the league.
Young is averaging 19.1 points and 8.2 assists per game and he has already established himself as one of the best shooters in the league, connecting on 41.8 percent of his three-point attempts. He is also a good free throw shooter, knocking down 85.7 percent of his foul shots
The only downside to Young’s game is that he is turnover-prone, averaging 4.3 turnovers per game. But even that can be forgiven given how well he has played overall this season.
There is no question that Trae Young is one of the best point guards in the NBA right now, and it will be interesting to see how he develops over the course of his career.
