The Pittsburgh Panthers men’s Basketball team is the NCAA Division I intercollegiate men’s Basketball Program of the University of Pittsburgh, often referred to as “Pitt”, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Pitt men’s basketball team competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and plays their home games in the Petersen Events Center. The Panthers were retroactively recognized as the pre-NCAA tournament National Champion twice by the Helms Athletic Foundation, in 1918 and 1928. Pitt has reached one Final Four, received 19 first-team All-American selections, appeared in 26 NCAA and nine National Invitation Tournaments (NIT), and played in 32 NCAA, nine NIT, and two college basketball Invitational (CBI) Tournaments.

The Panthers were retroactively recognized as the pre-NCAA Tournament national champion twice by the Helms Athletic Foundation and once by the Premo-Porretta Power Poll. Pitt has reached one Final Four, received 15 first-team All-American selections, appeared in 26 NCAA and nine National Invitation Tournaments (NIT) and through the 2020–21 season, owns an overall record of 2075–953 (.683).

The Pittsburgh Panthers men’s basketball team will begin their season on November 6th against the Samford Bulldogs The Panthers will look to defend their home court at the Petersen Events Center and build upon their 20-win season from last year. Additionally, the team will contend with tough road games against conference foes such as the Duke Blue Devils UNC Tar Heels and Syracuse Orange Some of the top home games on the schedule include visits from the Louisville Cardinals Virginia Cavaliers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

The Pittsburgh Panthers basketball team is the intercollegiate men’s Basketball Program representing the University of Pittsburgh, often referred to as “Pitt”, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Pitt men’s basketball team competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and plays their home games at the Petersen Events Center. The Panthers are currently coached by Jeff Capel.

Pitt has appeared in nine NCAA Men’s Championships and won two National Championships (1928, 1930), producing 28 NCAA tournament wins and 41 NIT tournament wins. Pitt has also reached one Final Four and competed in three NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament regional finals (1941, 1942, 1955), all under head coach Clair Bee.

The Pittsburgh Panthers began organized play in 1909 under the leadership of Hiram Horne. That year, they played their first game against rival Western University Of Pennsylvania winning 28–10. Horne led Pitt to four more conference championships during his tenure with Pitt from 1909–1916.

NCAA Basketball Pittsburgh Panthers coach Jamie Dixon notched his 600th career win with an 82-59 victory over Syracuse on Wednesday night. With the win, Dixon joined an elite group of just 14 NCAA Division I Basketball Coaches to reach the 600-win milestone.

The Panthers are currently ranked No. 19 in the AP Top 25 poll and are poised to make a run at the NCAA tournament The team is led by senior guard James Robinson, who is averaging 12.7 points and 3.9 assists per game
