The Notre Dame Women’s Basketball team defeated the Louisville Cardinals on Sunday, January 28th by a score of 73-59. In a hard-fought Battle, the Irish were able to come out on top and improve their record to 17-3 on the season.
Senior captains Marina Mabrey and Arike Ogunbowale led the way for Notre Dame scoring 21 and 20 points respectively. Mabrey also added 5 assists and 4 rebounds in the victory. Ogunbowale struggled from the field, shooting just 8-23, but she was able to make four crucial Free throws down the stretch to help ice the game for the Irish.
Garrett Navajo chipped in with 11 points off the bench, while freshman Katie Lou Samuelson added 10 points in her first career start. With the win, Notre Dame moved into a tie for second place in the ACC standings with Louisville and behind only first-place Baylor.
The Irish will look to continue their winning ways when they take on conference rivals Virginia Tech on Thursday, February 1st.

The Notre Dame women’s basketball team played their last game against the Duke Blue Devils on January 13th. The game ended in a loss for the Fighting Irish, with a score of 60-54.
Leading up to the game, Notre Dame had a 13-game Winning Streak This was the team’s first loss since December 4th, when they were defeated by the Stanford Cardinal
Despite the loss, there were some bright moments for Notre Dame Senior guard Marina Mabrey had 17 points in the game, giving her a total of 1,914 for her career. This places her fourth on Notre Dame’s all-time scoring list.

Jessica Shepard: A 6’4″ forward from Fremont, Nebraska, Shepard is the team’s leading scorer and rebounder. She averages 19.7 points and 9.3 rebounds per game Shepard was named the Big East Player of the Year and is a finalist for the Naismith Award (given to the nation’s top player).

Marina Mabrey: A 5’11” guard from Belmar, New Jersey, Mabrey is Notre Dame’s third-leading scorer. She averages 16.7 points per game and is one of the best three-point shooters in the country. Mabrey was named the Big East Tournament MVP after leading Notre Dame to the championship.

Four years ago, the Notre Dame women’s Basketball Team had one of the best seasons in program history. The team went undefeated in the regular season won the ACC tournament and made it all the way to the National Championship game.
This year, the team is not expected to have quite as much success. They lost several Key Players from last year’s team, and they are currently ranked sixth in the ACC.
Despite being ranked sixth in the conference, the Notre Dame women’s Basketball team still has a chance to make some noise in the postseason. They have a solid core of players, and they have already beaten some of the top teams in the country.
If they can put everything together, they could make a run to the Final Four.
