high school basketball is a winter sport in New Mexico and the regular season runs from early December to early March. The State Tournament is held the last week of February and the first week of March.
New Mexico has a rich Basketball History dating back to the 1920s. The first State Tournament was held in 1923, and it was won by Melrose high school since then, there have been many great teams and players that have come out of the state.
In recent years Albuquerque Academy has been the dominant team, winning 8 state titles in the last 10 years. But there are many other great teams in the state that have had success, including La Cueva high school which has won 3 state titles in the last 5 years.
So who will be crowned champion this year? Only time will tell. But one thing is for sure, High School basketball in New Mexico is never boring!

How the New Mexico high school Ball State Champions are Chosen
Basketball is a winter sport in New Mexico, with the state championship tournament taking place in early March. The tournament is open to all public and private High School teams in the state, with the top teams in each classification (based on school size) advancing to the state tournament
The state tournament consists of four rounds of play, with the first two rounds being single-elimination and the last two rounds being double-elimination. The final four teams in each classification then advance to the state championship games, which are held at a neutral site.
To be eligible to compete in the state tournament a team must have a .500 record or better during the regular season If there are not enough teams that meet this criteria, then the field will be filled out with teams that have played in a qualifying tournament.

The New Mexico high school basketball State Champions are a highly competitive team that has been consistently contender for the state title. The team is composed of players from all over the state, and the talent level is extremely high. The team’s Head Coach Markiago Coombs, is a highly respected coach who has won numerous championships at the High School level. Coach Coombs’ ability to develop players and get the most out of his teams is undeniable.
The team’s core group of players is composed of seniors who have been playing together for several years. These seniors have developed a strong chemistry and are extremely talented. They are led by two-time All-State point guard Marcus Flores. Flores is an elite level talent who has the ability to take over games. He is flanked by two other talented seniors, shooting guard Isaiah Johnson and small forward Antonio Lopez. These three players form the core of a very dangerous team.
The team also has several other excellent players, including junior shooting guard Jaden Rodriguez and sophomore point guard Aiden Martinez. Martinez is an up-and-coming star who has already received interest from several Division I colleges.
