Introduction
The Oglethorpe baseball team has seen a resurgence in recent years thanks in large part to the recruitment of top talent from around the country. The team has come a long way since its inception in 1889, when it was little more than a local club team.
Today, Oglethorpe is a Division III powerhouse, ranked No. 1 in the nation by Collegiate Baseball News. The team has won two National Championships and made seven trips to the College World Series Oglethorpe’s success on the field is matched by its academic excellence; the team’s student-athletes have a combined grade point average of 3.35.
Oglethorpe’s sustained success is due in large part to the commitment of Head Coach John Waters, who has been with the program for more than two decades. Under his leadership, Oglethorpe has become one of the premier Division III programs in the country.

In his third year, they went 27-5 and won the conference championship Last year, they went 34-2 and won their first ever National Championship This year, they are off to another great start with a record of 9-1. The team’s success is a result of hard work dedication, and talent.

In fact, prior to the teams’ run of success in the last 5 years, Oglethorpe had only won 1 conference title in their history (1989).

Weisberg, who took over the program in 2013, has led the Stormy Petrels to three straight postseason appearances, including a berth in the 2016 NCAA Division III World Series Pope, who joined the staff in 2014, has been instrumental in the team’s success, serving as hitting coach and recruiting coordinator.
